Exactly! plus consider the niche. if you're looking to go strictly whitehat, at least educate yourself in the basics Moz is a good resource to get your feet wet. A/B test everything.Just like when you design. the wrong approach could destroy everything..

I started leaning that way pre-Panda and haven't looked back. SEO is only one piece of the puzzle. yes you should be niched focused but in the same sense diversifying or offering a complete organic package just makes sense. Seo,SMM,CM etc are solid pieces of a good foundation for marketing...
