I've blown about $150 in one day and that wasn't a super popular keyword, my guess is $300 would be easy if you really wanted to. On the other hand, blowing through so much so fast for a new account has gotten me banned...twice now. And in contacting them 4-5 times, they were unable to tell me...
It doesn't really seem like it'll affect anything from an SEO perspective? Just public visibility...?
If anything, it makes expanding the description of something less cluttered :)

I have a couple sites ranked organically in the top 20 for the niches that promote Amazon books (among other Amazon things), and I have gotten click throughs and purchases.
Not a lot though, I think since I started them I've made maybe $5. Could be because of the poor niche, could be the not...
It depends on your area. In my area RoR and C# .NET is in significantly higher demand than Python/Django and PHP.
If you peruse jobdango, monster, linkedin, and craigslist for jobs in your area it might be a better indicator to you of what is best.
