Try to take it easy in the future with sites you plan to monetize. You really have to do some manual labor as far as high quality manual backlinks. Just a few a day so that you dont look suspicious. You just raised a huge red flag with the blasting.

High competition keyword tends to have a higher CPC. Lower competition niche: if your volume is there you still have potential to make some money

Just stay away from link farms or blogs that have already been heavily spammed. I hear Google tends to penalize
