I would just disable the links for comments, or install a nofollow plugin for comments/posts. And Yes you should definitely install akismet.

I find hyphenated domains rank great. But if you're going for brand recognition, you'd probably wouldn't want it to be ultra-long, maybe limit it to 3-4 words.
