small sites can still succeed but they need a clear advantage better content unique insights or a specific niche trying to outrank large authority sites on broad keywords is much harder than it was a few years ago
clear formatting has made a noticeable difference for me using descriptive headings concise answers FAQs and citing reliable sources makes it easier for both search engines and AI systems to understand and reference the content
PBNs can still have an impact but i wouldn't use them just to increase DA i care more about whether the links help rankings than improving a third party metric
Expired domains aren't as powerful as they used to be but they still have value when chosen carefully a clean history and strong relevant backlinks have been much more important than high DR or DA alone
updating existing content has produced the biggest gains for me refreshing outdated pages improving search intent and adding new information often worked better than publishing new articles
i tested pages with heavy keyword repetition a while back and didn't see any lasting benefit matching search intent and covering the topic well has consistently outperformed stuffing keywords
before buying any edu placement i'd check if the page is indexed has organic traffic and isn't just selling links those factors have been far more important in my experience
The biggest lesson for me was chasing quick wins instead of building a solid site first even when rankings improved temporarily they didn't last because the foundation wasn't strong
It may still have some impact in certain cases but it's nowhere near as effective as it once was building a strong natural backlink profile is still the best long term protection
