I have used Blogger, WP free and self-hosted WP. Another vote for self-hosted WP. Not a techie, just got the one-click install from Bluehost. And you're good to go.

You can try SWIFT, a free theme in wordpress. But, for me I use headway themes. It's much easier to use, for a non-coder like me.
