I think it's a personal preference. I manage 5 webshops as my fulltime job and we both have www and without. I tend to like the websites without www as I find them easier to access.

You are allowed to the have the same opinions on things related to camping as them. As long as you don't steal images that they themself have shot or anything like that then you are good to go.
Product wise you are good to go as well. A lot of websites sells the same item or things closely...
I usually do not agree with my boss and we discuss both points of view and find the best solution. He tends to like his own most of the times. But the moral is that he is not always right and if you do not speak you will not be heard.
