Everyone makes mistakes when managing advertising campaigns yeah, especially when starting out. Maybe it was choosing the wrong bidding strategy, ignoring negative keywords etc. What's one mistake that cost you money but taught you something valuable? Share your mistakes so the rest of us don't have to pay the same expensive tuition fees to Google.

One mistake is increasing the budget before checking where the money is going. More spend doesn't fix a campaign that's targeting the wrong people. Search terms and conversions need a look first, otherwise you can burn through the budget without getting anything useful back.

Not adding negative keywords early enough. I was paying for clicks that had zero chance of converting. Learned that lesson pretty fast lol.

Mine: trusting "Search Partners" and "Display Network" checkboxes on a new Search campaign. On a new account they ate a big part of the budget with clicks that never converted, and because the main campaign reports looked fine, it took a week to notice. Now the first thing I check on any new Search campaign is the network settings, and I compare performance by network in the segment view.

A close second: running a new account at full budget from day one. A brand-new account that suddenly spends a lot, combined with a new payment method, is a classic way to get a "suspicious payment activity" suspension before you've learned anything. Ramping up over the first couple of weeks costs less than the appeal process.

And one that clients bring to us at PPC Rebels (ppcrebels.com) a lot: fixing tracking after the campaign has already run on broken conversions for weeks. Smart bidding learns from whatever you feed it, so set up and test conversions before you launch, not after.

One mistake worth avoiding is judging leads by cost alone. Cheap form fills can look great until you check how many are spam or outside your service area. Track qualified leads and actual sales before deciding which campaign deserves more budget.

One of the biggest mistakes for gambling ads for example is to not warm up the account long enough. We run these ads since years so we learned the hard way.

I used to pause campaigns way too early. Some needed more time and data before making a decision. Lost a few good opportunities because I expected results immediately.

I think making too many changes at once was a costly lesson, now just test one thing at a time so you can understand what actually works.

Mine was increasing the budget too fast. Thought more budget means more sales, but ended up spending more without getting better results lol.
