I agree with the general view here. A better title and description are worth the work because they bring in more of the traffic you already earned a ranking for, but I have not seen CTR alone move a page up in a lasting way.
Starblazer's example makes the point well. If a page on page two is getting almost every click it can get and still stays there, the bottleneck is usually relevance, authority, or how well the page answers the query, not the snippet. More clicks do not fix a weak page.
What has worked better for me is to use CTR as a check, not a target. I look in Search Console for pages with good impressions and low CTR for their position, rewrite the title to match the intent more closely, and then watch what happens after the click. If people stay, scroll, and click deeper into the site, that is a good sign. If they bounce straight back, the title probably promised more than the page delivered, and that is where I go back and improve the content itself.
So I would keep improving CTR, but pair it with the page work. A clear title gets the click. A page that satisfies the searcher is what keeps the visit useful.

The major bottleneck is domain authority. I have several near zero authority sites with terrific CTR but still Google refuses to rank them. Backlinks and traditional SEO strategies are still important despite people glorifying AEO.
I mix traditional SEO strategies along with CTR to get a little boost. I found the major factor to be site authority. So, if your site has authority 12 and the biggest competitor has 26, you can move ahead with internal linking in most cases. If the competition is high, then you'll find it hard to march ahead without enough backlinks.
I have also tested other factors like site design, navigation, on-page branding, author page, etc. but none of them helped me much. However, I won't discredit them completely as they keep the site safe from future algorithm updates.

I agree with your point about checking the title against the actual queries bringing the impressions, because a title can look clear in isolation and still promise something the page only covers briefly. Your positions four to ten check is a sensible place to start, and fixing the page first when the promise and the content do not match is the part I would keep. A clearer title is still worth doing once the page answers the query well, as you said, because then it turns ranking already earned into traffic.

Improving CTR definitely helps bring more organic traffic, but it isn't a confirmed direct Google ranking factor. I focus on better titles and meta descriptions to attract relevant clicks while prioritizing content quality and search intent.

We're looking to potentially start vending real-user clicks to boost CTR and visitors; starting by acquiring and servicing our own clients, rather than vending clicks en masse. So far, I'm getting the understanding that existing authority, and other technicals are a necessary foundation for clicks to do anything.
Even if we target companies that are on the second page for a query, with similar authority to the first-pagers, do you think it would be necessary for us to also package backlink building and technical SEO?
Preferably we'd like to break in with the fastest speed. Do you have any general tips for real-user vendors?

My Thinking, higher CTR definitely improves your rankings over time. When Google sees more people searching Keyword matching your title and site over others, that's way improve your CTR.

If the site authority and webpage metrics are comparable, then you can push it with CTR alone. However, Google started filtering based on user intent since last year. For example, if I'm searching for a research paper, Google prefers educational sites, pdf hosting sites, etc. over others. The only exemption is News sites that can rank for anything.
So, you should match overall site authority, user intent matching, and content quality to assess the potential to rank. Individual page authority is not that important in most cases, but it also helps. If the competitor has backlinks to the ranking page, then you should also consider building backlinks. Otherwise, site authority alone is sufficient.
Gotcha. So as long as our sites have commensurate DA, and the content matches the search intent CTR should be potent.

Hi, I have been working on improving my titles and meta descriptions to get more clicks from Google Search. I am getting a better CTR now, but I'm not sure if that actually helps rankings over time or if it's just increasing traffic. Has anyone here noticed rankings improve after increasing CTR, or is it mostly unrelated? I'd like to hear some real experiences.

In other words, it always pays off to work on titles/descriptions anyway. More traffic for the same position is a definite win, and any ranking improvements are a bonus. If you would like to know how it worked for you, compare the same keywords in Search Console both before and after the optimization, make sure that your position changed as well and not only the click-through rate, and test only one variable at a time. If you ask this question, providing your numbers as well will earn you more helpful answers.

ctr bumps gave me more clicks but rankings barely moved lol, i treat it as a traffic win not a ranking signal tbh
