Some accounts have very few followers, yet their Reels still rack up tens of thousands of views. What criteria does Instagram use to recommend videos?

I think it’s likely because the content is good and the opening hook is strong, which led Instagram to promote the video to a wider audience. it has nothing to do with the follower count.

Virality, these social media platforms are sophisticated enough to figure out the virality of the content and they run with it.

followers amount dose not matter on gaining views on insta, may be their videos starting part are too strong to attract audience. also video quality and video niche matters to gain views. instagram check videos audience retention and recent audience behavior to suggest the video others.

What kind of content is actually engaging? I've created a lot of content, but none of it has been recommended.

It’s really hard to guess when something might go viral. I’ve been making Reels for quite a while, but my content has never been recommended

In that case, could new accounts have the same opportunities as accounts with many followers provided their content is good enough?

why not? if you can provide good content with good hook strategy, audience will watch your videos. insta is a scrolling platform. if your content has that much strong hook to stop scrolling and attract to watch full video, then definitely your video gonna be get placed on instagram suggested page. and it will be gain good amount of views.

i’ve noticed that in my feed too. Honestly i don’t know how it works, but it seems like it’s based on the keywords and on-screen text

Great question, Instagram now works on content rather than followers. Instagram looks at how long people watch a video, like it, share it, save it, or comment on it. Apart from that, the quality of the video, popular audio, and originality of the content also play an important role. If a video gets a good response at the beginning and people watch it with interest, Instagram shows it in people's feed and explore. Instagram shows your video to people who want to see similar content. I think good quality, consistency, and a unique style are very important for success.

I think it’s safe to say that high quality content is the key criterion. accounts like those might go viral occasionally, but there’s no guarantee of consistent view counts.

followers dont matter anymore tbh. if the reel keeps ppl watching and gets dm shares, algo just pushes it. thats it.

The spread of short videos doesn't depend on the number of followers, but rather on engaging content that encourages viewers to interact and share them widely.

Are those accounts posting original videos or just repurposing viral clips? Sometimes they are also just running engagement ads or using mother-child methods behind the scenes to force the initial traction.

I think it's mostly about engagement, not follower count. Watch time, shares, saves, and replays all help Instagram decide whether a Reel is worth recommending to more people. That's why even small accounts can go viral.

It's very difficult to predict Instagram's algorithm; people usually focus on the quality of product video content rather than aiming for the quantity of videos.

Follower count isn't everything. Instagram also looks at signals like watch time, shares, likes, and how viewers respond to a Reel. Strong content can reach people who don't follow the account, which is why small profiles can still get huge views.

I think Instagram is a unique platform for Gen Z. People have strong personalities, and content can spread really fast. That’s a big advantage, but it also comes with some downsides
