Outbound clicks are increasing but little traffic is registered by GA4 - why? cookies?

Hey all!

Recently I have started developing a new website through Pinterest and the account is slowly growing, getting outbound clicks but somehow my GA4 doesn't always register them, I checked multiple times and I think everything should be good, but it sees like 1 out of 10 outbounds, the page loads pretty fast, I thought it could be the cookie permission (yes, I actually use it), so my question is do you guys even use this permission on your blogs? I checked many (blogs) and it almost never pops up. Or you have any ideas what it could be? I see that not all of the clicks will be registered but I find it rare that so little is actually noticed.

Thanks!
Cheers

Fix the discrepancy by delaying cookie blocking until script load, tagging all pins with clean UTM parameters and ensuring your GA4 tag is loaded asynchronously in the "head" of your site.

Thanks, will try those

It’s worth checking whether the missing visits are mostly from mobile since in app browsers and people leaving before the analytics tag loads can cause a pretty big gap between outbound clicks and recorded sessions

I had the same thought about cookie consent. Some visitors might reject cookies, so GA4 won't track them. I'd also double-check if Analytics is loading properly on mobile. Pinterest clicks and actual website visits don't always match, so there could be a few things going on.

Check these things: your GA4 consent mode settings, whether outbound-click events are actually firing, and your Pinterest referral data. A consent setting or a tracking misfire is the more likely reason your clicks aren’t showing up.

It could be cookie consent, especially if users reject analytics cookies, but also try to check whether GA4 is firing correctly on every page.

Pinterest outbound clicks don't always translate into actual page views, since some users may leave before the page fully loads.

Also test it with GA4 DebugView and compare the landing page data with Pinterest analytics.

Test the same pin link on mobile with cookies accepted, then rejected, and compare what GA4 records. Also check all traffic to that landing page, not just Pinterest referrals. That helps separate missing visits from visits recorded under another source. UTM tags can help identify the source, but won't fix a tag that isn't firing.
