Does repurposing long form content into Shorts save you time and generate additional views, or do you find that Shorts work better when created specifically for the format?

Both approaches have the potential to deliver results. Repurposing long-form content saves time, but rebuilding it specifically for the Shorts rhythm often tends to achieve higher view counts.

I’d repurpose long videos into shorts to save time, but I wouldn’t just cut clips and post them as they are. Each short needs a strong hook and a clear point. I’d also create some shorts specifically for the format, because what works in a 10-minute video doesn’t always work in 30 seconds. The best approach is to test both and see what brings better results

If your video has a hook, post that as a short and leave the answer for the long form video and use the short to hook them for the long video.

imo, i would try using both techniques bcz a longer video will allow discovering those moments that one can miss, while a shorter video may reqquire another intro in order not to let people scroll away.at the same time, there are moments that do not work as a short video at all.

Some clips need a bit of editing so they make sense on their own, because viewers may not have seen the full video.

Long videos and Shorts attract different audiences, but both can drive engagement and growth if the content is good. I believe leveraging both is the best approach.

I think repurposing saves a lot of time, especially when you already have good content. But I’ve noticed Shorts perform better when you make a few adjustments to fit the shorter format and grab attention quickly. A mix of both seems to work best.

There are many ways to split a long video into smaller clips—ranging from manual methods and AI-powered automation to the use of professional software.

Repurposing can save a lot of time, especially when you pull out strong moments with a clear hook. I’d still edit each clip for Shorts fast pacing, captions, and a standalone point rather than just chopping up the long video.

Creating a few highlights from a long-form video is a fairly easy task that can help with promotion. I do the same with my Twitch broadcasts, and I distribute the clips I make after the broadcast to other platforms.
Of course, it is useful to combine and create something specifically for the shorts format. But in terms of the effort involved, I think it’s also very worthwhile to simply pull short excerpts from your main videos.

You can break your content down into specific sections to engage viewers, allowing them to jump directly to the parts that interest them most instead of having to watch a long video from start to finish. Another effective way to keep viewers hooked and potentially attract new customers is to link your videos together by ending them at suspenseful, high-tension moments.

In my opinion, the best approach is to combine editing longer content to fit a shorter pace and guiding viewers back to the original video.

The best approach is to combine experimentation with both producing independent short videos and reusing highlights from longer videos to save time, optimize views, and attract viewers to the longer video.

Repurposing long form content absolutely saves you time and gives you more opportunities to get to a new audience. I wouldn't just go in and chop up bits of it and upload those as Shorts though.

I'd use the long form video as the source and then take the best bits and repackage them as standalone shorts with a killer opening hook, much tighter editing, appropriate captions and a clear takeaway.

Content made specifically for Shorts will in fact perform better as it's been crafted with short form viewing behaviour in mind. My approach would be a combination of both: repurpose to save on production time, but then tailor each clip to feel completely native to the platform.

I think using both works best. You can get extra content from long videos, but some topics are better when made specifically for Shorts.

I cut the long video into 15-second clips using the YouTube Shorts editor and it usually saves a few hours compared to shooting fresh content. But if the original footage lacks a clear hook the Shorts may underperform.

That's a great idea to create a shorts from your long form videos. This actually helps to increase the traffic on your channel. This is very tricky method, pick that moment of video which are attractive and explaining the some part of your main topic. when people saw this short they will want watch the next part of full video and if they found the complete video on your channel they will also click it and watch till end to find that mysterious part. This is a very smart idea and work well in getting views and subscribers.
