Why does Facebook need to scan your facial biometrics just to create an account?

Hi everyone,
My original Facebook account was hacked. They changed my password and email to theirs.
I didn't respond to Facebook's request asking if the change was made by me within the allowed timeframe. I reported it to Facebook and Meta, but they did nothing.

Has your account been verified? Verification will increase your account's visibility, and setting up two-factor authentication is essential to prevent account loss. If you have reported your account lost, you should prepare the necessary documents to verify your account and regain ownership.

They are trying to remove the fake accounts but at the same tym they were demanding face scans from real people who couldnt be protected before. the privacy price seems to be very high.

It’s frustrating when recovery options fail, especially after someone changes both your email and password. Facebook may use a video selfie to verify identity, but the lack of clear alternatives is a real concern for users who can’t or won’t submit biometrics.

the problem i have is that the hacker was able to change the information despite the owner being unablle to prove their identity.i understand the need for security verification procedures but having only one way of recovering an account is not good enough especially if it is old.

They do so in order to burn their agricultural networks and stop any automated creation of accounts.
If the IP or device finger print is suspiciious in the context of account recovery selfies are requested automatically.

+1. Interested in that as well.

I previously had 2FA enabled, but hackers gained access and changed the verification method.

What do you think I should do to get my full amount back?

Do you know of any way to recover a hacked account without facial recognition?

the strange thing is that they can lock out the right full owner but allow the hacker access to change the recovery information. they now want ur face as a verification which i finds strange.

think about losing an account that uh have held on to for many years only to be required to take a scan of ur face in order to regain access to it. securitty checks are important but there is another way.

dirty finger print or IP detection activated automatic checkpoint. video selfie is meta liveness detection when there is a mismatch between account information and login environment.

ZacharyLiu - on recovering without the face scan: tonnyy and wertos are guessing at detection internals, which none of us can verify, but the recovery options themselves are documented, so it is worth working from those instead.

From Meta's Help Center: if you think the account was hacked, start their hacked-account recovery flow, and do it on a device you have used to log into Facebook before - that detail is in their guidance, and a familiar device is part of how they recognize the account belongs to you. If you still control the email or phone on the account, reset the password directly. Since the hacker changed yours and the "was this you?" window was missed, your case is the one Meta has a separate path for: recovering when you no longer have access to the account's email or phone. Meta also documents ID upload as one of the ways it can ask you to confirm identity, so a video selfie is not the only identity proof in their system.

Whether you get offered any of these instead of the selfie, nobody here can say - the flow decides per case. But those are the documented paths, and they fit your situation better than waiting on a report. If you do get back in, change the password and re-do two-factor, since they changed yours.

Once they change the email and u miss the confirmation window, it gets really hard. Lot of people end up stuck cause Meta's recovery process is slow or just loops. Some keep submitting ID verification through the official channels nd hope it eventually gets reviewed, but results are mixed.. frustrating situation -_-

This is to verify that your identity is real. Currently, there are many people who create fake accounts to sell. Facebook does this simply to protect your account.

That makes me very upset! They failed to protect my real account when it was hacked.

I understand Facebook's need to improve account security, but in my opinion requiring facial scans raises valid privacy concerns.

Biometric data is highly sensitive, and users may not feel comfortable sharing it. I think Facebook should offer alternative verification methods, such as ID verification or trusted device confirmation.
