Probably because the older video already has a proven audience. I wouldn't change too much right away. Give the new one some time and check if the thumbnail, topic and retention are strong enough to compete.

sometimes, the older version will have accumulated enough watch time that it continues to be chosen in preference to more recent videos.in that case, u should consider making the new one a logical conttinuation of the previous success, allowing ur audience a reason to watch both videos. are the themes similar?

youtube doesnt stop recommending older video just because you uploaded something new.if that video keeps viewers watching it can continue bringing in traffic.compare the new video impressions and click through rate first to see whether the issue

Older videos can keep performing because they already match what viewers want. Don't rush to delete or reupload the new one. Give it time, compare its topic and packaging with your successful videos, and look for where viewers drop off.

Older videos are easily re trended, and the optimal solution for new videos is to improve the title and thumbnail to increase competitiveness.
