I think niche relevance matters more than DR alone. A backlink from a relevant website with real organic traffic can be more valuable than a high-DR link from an unrelated site. Ideally, look for a balance of relevance, authority, traffic, and link quality.

Yes, relevance can make a big difference. I'd check whether the linking site attracts the same audience and has genuine traffic, instead of judging a backlink by DR alone.

StrixSeo calling DR just an Ahrefs score landed hard for me. I used to sort every prospect by DR first, and now checking real traffic and relevance first feels like the obvious order.

the realization that I have come to is that it is much easier for me to get gud results through sites that have organic traffic rather than going after link from site that have high DR scores. Having a high score does not necessarily mean that the site will be a worthy backlink.

I concur with the author that relevance is key a high DR doesn’t mean that a backlink is valuable and hence will look at other factors including traffic and if the site is niche relevant

agreed, niche relevance and real organic traffic should be the priority not only on DR alone. A balanced approach focus on relevance, authority, traffic and link quality is what matters for effective link building.

I do not disagree with the idea that just because something has high DR does not necessarily mean it is good i would rather focus on the topic relevance traffic generated by the site and the quality of the page where the backlink will be posted

The main idea is about to acquire form the topical authority. Google Refers them wether they came from 0 DR

From my experience, I’d prioritize relevance and actual organic traffic over DR alone. A high-DR site can look impressive in metrics, but if it has an unrelated audience or questionable link profile, the value may be limited. I usually evaluate topical relevance, traffic quality, outbound link patterns, and how naturally the link fits into the content. DR is useful as a filtering metric, but it shouldn’t be the deciding factor.

Of course niche relevant backlinks work better, since google can detect them and their "trust value/link juice" is better than getting high DR links from unrelated websites.

Relevance wins almost every time. A link from an on-topic site with real traffic does more than a DR 70 from a link farm with 50 outbound links on the page. DR is easy to inflate, topic and traffic aren't.

A Backlinks from a relevant website with a genuine editorial value can be more useful than a link from a high DR website that has little connection to your niche.

Focus on earning links that make sense for your content and provide genuine value to users. Don't chase DR or relevance in Isolation.

Yeah I’d look at the article itself too, not just the site’s niche. I wouldn’t turn down a link from a general news site if the article actually fits my topic. I’d rather have that than a site in my niche where every article is clearly just there to sell a link.

I have seen relevance work really. Even if the site isnt in your niche, you can write an article that connects both topics naturally.
For example a travel site can get a link from a business site through an article about managing money while travelling and it really works

Niche relevance matters more than DR alone, I'd prioritize relevant sites with real organic traffic and quality content, using DR as supporting metric rather than the main deciding factor

If I had to choose between relevance and DR , I’d usually take the relevant site. A DR 35 domain that actually ranks in your niche and has real organic visibility can be a much better prospect than a DR 80 media site with no topical connection , DR is just a third party metric anyway , not a Google ranking factor. I’d still check the actual linking page , site quality , organic visibility and outbound link profile rather than judging the placement on DR alone

The ideal approach is to seek a balance of relevance, authority, traffic, and link quality.
