I think these new features could be useful for creators. TikTok is already great for engagement, so it'll be interesting to see if stories and live photos help boost reach even more.
TikTok stories and live photos boost existing follower retention and lower friction for casual posting, but they won't rival Instagram's engagement efficiency since TikTok's main strength remains algorithm-driven FYP discovery over temporary feed updates.
One difference I’ve noticed is that TikTok allows you to post "Live Photos" to your story, whereas Instagram only supports regular photos. I really like this feature.
I believe the animated image feature is a potential tool to enhance interaction, however, its actual effectiveness still needs time to be tested because users' habit of viewing Stories is not yet widespread.
The key is figuring out which format fits your audience best. Stories may be better for quick updates, while Live Photos can add variety to your content mix testing both is more useful than assuming one will always perform better.
