Hi

Looking to get my site ranked for some Malay keywords can anyone give any advise on what they have done to help with SEO in Malaysia?

I want to know what SEO strategies would be most effective to invest in and what to look out for when selecting someone to do SEO

I want to know what is the best way to do keyword research to find the right keywords for my site? that will have decent search volume and reasonable difficulty to rank for

How important is quality content search intent internal links and targeting the right keywords using Malay?

What kind of backlinks work best to help rank?

What technical issues should I be looking to fix before backlinking?

What should I track to make sure my SEO is working?

If you have any experience with websites in Malaysia would love to hear what has worked for you and what to avoid

What would you suggest looking at before employing an SEO expert?

With Malay keywords i will begin with local keyword research and content that mimics the way people in Malaysia really search i would also do a technical SEO audit and internal links before committing to backlinks with hiring of an SEO specialis i will demand for case studies and organic traffic data not just ranking screenshots or DA/DR

Start with some keyword research in Malay to see what your local customers are searching for you need to know how your target audience will search for you, what they want and will search naturally for. Before spending any money on backlinks ensure that you have no technical issues and build some relevant internal linking when hiring an SEO expert ask them what their process is and what real results they can provide

Use local search intent (Malay) and natural phrases when targeting Malay keyword queries after resolving any technical issues create quality content and backlinks

One aspect i would check out would be the usage of standard malay language versus local malay language among top ranking pages as this would affect which keywords attract buyers rather than just visitors.

Great point! Its really important to match your content to the local Malay language and search intent so you’re targeting the right audience

I would begin with keyword research using Malay target the local competitors and focus on creating valuable content and considering search intent backlinks would be targeted towards local Malaysian sites and not just high metric sites

For Malaysia start with Malay keyword research using local search results and competitor analysis Focus on search intent realistic keyword difficulty and content that answers users questions

Track impressions clicks keyword positions organic traffic and conversions monthly. Consistent improvements in relevant traffic and engagement matter more than rankings for unrelated keywords

I would conduct Malay keyword research and concentrate on the user is intention to search rather than translate English keywords word by word
local language can play a major role thus i will find out what Malaysians type into their search bar and concentrate first on long tail keywords once done with keywords research and strategy creation i will move to writing quality content building up internal links and fixing technical errors rather than putting much effort in link building right away an seo professional should have proven case studies and not guarantee any particular ranking

For Malaysia SEO, I would start with competitor analysis and keyword research using local Malay SERPs. Don’t focus on search volume alone we have to check search intent, keyword difficulty, and whether users search in Malay, English, or a mix of both.

Make sure your content sounds natural in Malay, your internal links are structured properly, and technical issues like indexing, broken links, and duplicate pages are fixed before scaling backlinks.

For link building, I will prioritize relevant niche websites with real organic traffic over high-DR sites with no topical relevance.

While choosing an SEO service, you need to check some case studies, link samples, and conversion data. Track organic clicks, leads, conversions, and keyword positions.

For the Malaysian market, I’d start with proper keyword research, competitor analysis, and on-page optimization before investing heavily in backlinks. Make sure you target keywords based on local search intent and use natural Malay content where appropriate.

For link building, focus on relevant Malaysian websites with genuine organic traffic rather than choosing sites based on DA/DR alone. Also, check technical SEO, indexing, site speed, and internal linking before scaling your off-page efforts.

The best strategy varies by niche and competition. Start with local keyword/search-intent research, strong Malay content, technical cleanup, and relevant Malaysian links; then tailor the link/content mix to the niche instead of using one fixed formula.

In regards to Malaysia, I would conduct Malay keyword research, local search intent, and competitive analysis. Create quality Malay content, optimize internal links, and resolve any technical SEO issues prior to obtaining backlinks locally. Measure your performance based on organic traffic, keywords, and conversions. When employing an SEO specialist, make sure you require proof of success and SEO strategy from them.

Focus on local search intent, natural Malay phrasing, and competitors already ranking in Malaysia. Check regional keyword variations before creating content.

To vet an SEO hire, ask them to map five real Malay queries to specific pages and explain the Malaysian search intent for each. A 90-day Search Console plan tracking clicks and leads is more useful than a promise of backlinks or rankings.

The good news is that SEO is usually easier for Malaysian websites compared to mainstream American websites.

Best strategy for you:
Check what your top 10 competitors are doing and use them as your guide.

Best way to do keyword research in your case:
If your site is new, start with your first 20 articles targeting keywords with around 30-80 monthly searches.
Don't chase keywords with higher search volumes at the beginning.
Individual articles can be enough to rank for smaller keywords like these.
Once you start getting traffic to your website, planning your next steps becomes much easier.

For keyword research, focus on building topical authority i.e. covering one topic in detail using 5-6 articles.
Once again, you can do this by looking at your top 10 competitors.

Also, write your articles primarily for users.Once the articles are ready, focus on adding relevant keywords and FAQs where they fit naturally.

What kind of backlinks do you need?
The same kinds of backlinks your top 10 competitors have.

What technical issues should you fix?
Just make sure you have a proper website with SSL and fast loading speeds.
Don't waste time worrying about minor technical issues.

What should you track to make sure your SEO is working?
Just keep an eye on Google Search Console to monitor your rankings, impressions, clicks, and indexing.

What would I suggest before hiring an SEO expert?
Talk to them first. Show them your website and ask them to prepare keyword research, competitor analysis, and backlink analysis.
Also, ask how long they expect it will take to achieve rankings.

PS: If you talk to a few sellers and compare their approaches, you'll get a much better feeling for whom you should work with.

That is it for now
:)

This is a great strategy. It is important to understand the intent behind the local searches and sort out any technical issues.

Additionally, I would focus on obtaining backlinks that are relevant and validating the data through traffic and keyword analysis.

Regarding Malay keywords one must conduct local keyword research and keyword intent research first and then ensure that the content is natural sounding to Malaysian people technical factors should be optimized first before focusing on backlink building and click through rates and other metrics should be checked through google search console.
