Is a Thank-You Page Really Necessary?

Agreed. A thank you page should have a purpose. It shouldn't just be there because it's a standard part of the funnel. If the user can go straight to the product then that's the ideal situation and you should remove that step. If they're going to have to wait for a call or do something else then the thank you page can be used to set expectations and reduce the confusion.

I'd also look at conversion tracking as a possibility since thank you pages can be a good way of measuring the number of completed leads. The optimal setup is going to be dependent on the user journey rather than there being some universal rule.

i think it depends what happens after conversion.if users start using the product right away then sending them straight there makes sense but if they need to wait for a call or further instructions a thank you page helps set expectations and avoids confusion.

Spot on regarding user friction versus expectations, but there are two huge technical and monetization reasons why thank-you pages remain standard practice:

1. Bulletproof Conversion Tracking: Firing Meta, Google Ads, or TikTok conversion pixels on a dedicated thank-you URL is still much more reliable than relying on button-click triggers, which often fail or get blocked by aggressive browser privacy extensions.
2. Immediate Monetization and Upsells: A thank-you page gets the highest undivided user attention in the entire funnel. It is prime real estate to push a one-click upsell, invite users to a private Telegram/community channel, or capture email subscribers while intent is at its peak.

If your tracking is completely handled via server-side APIs and there is zero cross-sell opportunity, routing straight to the dashboard is great for UX. Otherwise, a thank-you page is usually too valuable to skip.
