Hey everyone, with automated targeting becoming more common, I'm curious how you approach audience research today.
Do you still spend time building detailed interest-based audiences, or do you focus more on creative angles and conversion data?
Has your approach changed over the past couple of years?

Its not less important but it just shifted audience research away from manual demographic and toward deep customer insights, creative positioning, and message market fit

My approach has changed a lot. I still research the audience before launching, but I dont waste hours making tons of interest groups. I prefer broad targeting and testing different creatives, then scale what brings actual conversions.

Personally I still do audience research before launching a campaign because It really helps me understand what people want and create better ads even when using automated targeting.

I focus more on creative angles and conversion data now. Broad targeting works well in many cases, while interests are still useful for testing. Meta has changed a lot, and strong creatives with solid conversion signals often matter more than building overly detailed audiences.

Still do audience research, but I focus more on customer pain points and creative angles than building dozens of interest based audiences.

Broad targeting works well when you have enough conversion data, but understanding your customers is still what helps you create ads that convert.

From my experience, I used to spend more time building interest-based audiences and now I prefer broader targeting and let the conversion data guide my next steps.

Testing different creatives can reveal audiences you wouldn't have thought to target and conversion data helps show which ones are actually worth spending money on.

Broad targeting can significantly increase costs and attract responses from people who aren’t interested in your offer. It’s best to target a specific audience and combine it with geographic targeting.

Customer preferences can change. I often leverage existing customer segments to optimize costs when running advertisements.

I still think audience research matters, but I spend more time testing creatives now. Broad targeting can work well when you have enough conversion data, but knowing your customers helps you create ads that actually connect with them.
