Hi guys
when writing blog posts, sometimes I end up covering topic that are quite similar to my older articles. can this cause any SEO problems over time? do you usually combine similar posts or keep them seprate if they cover slightly diffrent things.

Similar topics r fine as long as each post answers a different question if two articles target the same search intent, combining them may make more sense

I usually keep them separate if they cover different points, but if they target the same keyword and answer the same question, I prefer combining them into one useful post.

Similar topics aren't a problem unless the pages compete for the same search intent. If two posts answer essentially the same question, I'd merge them. If they serve different needs, keep both and link them together.

If two of those posts start swapping places in Search Console for the same query, that is cannibalization. Merge them and 301 the weaker URL to the stronger one.

Do your similar posts target different search intents or would the same google query cover all of them? if it’s different so keep them and interlink and if its the same so merge them.

Writing about similar topics is fine as ling as each post offers something unique. If multiple articles target the same keywords and search intent, they may compete with each other, so I'd update or merge overlapping content when needed.

Yes it can cause keyword cannibalization where your own pages compete against each other in search results, so if the search intent is identical you should merge them into one comprehensive post and 301 redirect the old one.

Check GSC for two posts swapping rankings for the same query. if they compete, merge them and 301 the weaker one.

Yeah, analyze the search query level data for 28 days from Google Search Console. If the two URLs are intended for the same purpose, then the better one can be combined and the other redirected.

Yeah, but do consider the clicks and conversion for each URL before combining them, because it's possible that the two pages have somewhat different intentions and you might lose some traffic by doing so.

I've always assumed covering a topic twice just doubled my chances. josh.phliphi's point about checking clicks and conversions per URL before merging flipped that for me.

similar type posts have done well for me even if answering different questions, so i would not merge solely on the basis that the topics are similar. always verify from GSC, there have been times where both posts would generate different traffic.

That’s correct; writing about similar topics too frequently can harm your SEO. This phenomenon is often referred to as "keyword cannibalization" or "content saturation."

I think writing about similar topics is fine as long as they fit your blog. Sometimes you just have more things to share about the same topic. No need to avoid it completely, am i right in this, don't know actually, learning SEO lol.

I believe there is nothing to be concerned about in regard to having similar topics because this will happen by default after my blog gets more traffic.
In case the post attracts other keywords, I use Google Search Console to find out whether I should merge it.
If the purpose of posts is not the same, then I would leave them separate.

similar topics not problem by themselves.what matters is each article gives readers something different if two posts answering same question with almost the same information merge them and make one stronger page them compete for the same searches.

you should check if the both posts target the same keyword, because they may coompete with each other in search terms.

I've run into this myself, and similar topics only became a problem when two of my posts were chasing the exact same query. I usually leave them alone if they're answering different questions, even if the titles look close. The tell for me was checking Search Console and seeing both URLs swapping places for one term, so I merged the weaker one into the stronger post and redirected it. Since then I just give each new post a clearly different angle before I publish it.

I think it depends on how much the articles overlap

If they target the same search intent, I’d consider combining them into one stronger article rather than having two pages competing for the same keywords

But if they answer different questions, I’d keep them separate and make sure each one offers something useful and unique
