Have you seen links lose value or drop out of the index after a few months??

I don't recheck links unless if they're expensive, and acquired through outreach.

It is natural for some links to die over time, but within 4 months is too short, and the link is questionable in the first place.

1.How often does this happen to you?
2. Do you recheck old links, and how often?
3. Did you find any pattern (certain site types, certain anchors)?
Well, yes, I have noticed that links lose their importance or get de-indexed within just a couple of months.

This usually happens with websites of low quality, expired pages, or those whose content is volatile.

I would suggest keeping an eye on the backlink, the indexation, referring domain, and organic traffic on a monthly basis.

this happens frequently with low tier pbn and web two links because google constantly cleans spammy pages auditing backlinks monthly helps track index drop rates.

I get more worried about losing the back links if the linking website is deindexed or becmes a dead site rather than losing the backlink through the backlink tool itself lol

I recommend rechecking every few months, maybe every 2 mnths, especially the ones on sites that openly sell posts

mostly happens on sites that sell posts to anyone. links on real blogs with their own traffic rarely drop out. a quick recheck once a month is enough

biggest pattern I've seen is niche edits on domains that recently changed ownership -- old owner built the authority, new owner couldn't care less about maintaining it. link stays technically live but the page quietly tanks. quarterly recheck is fine for most cases, monthly if they're genuinely important links.

Can't say if they lose value as I have no way of measuring it. But yeah, it happens now and then, I just re-index them.

Once a year... max.
3. Did you find any pattern (certain site types, certain anchors)?
As mentioned above... it's mainly low quality ones. The posts which actually get traffic don't get deindexed.

It usually happens with low quality links, sites that stop publishing content, inactive social media handles, etc. The high quality links from active sites survive for years.

Most of the time a link doesn't die on its own, it goes down with the donor when the site gets deindexed or the domain drops and ends up with a new owner. So don't just check if the link is still live, check if the donor page itself is still in the index.

same pattern on my end. the cheap guest posts on sites selling to everyone start dropping within months, while links on pages that get their own traffic just stay there. i stopped buying the cheap ones entirely lol
haha, totally. a live page that receives relevant traffic is more valuable to me than a guest post for which I have to pay cheap money but is posted on a website that sells links to anyone,

Yeah, I’ve seen this happen. Sometimes the page stays indexed but the link seems to lose its impact over time. I think it depends a lot on the site, the page it’s on, and whether Google still sees that page as valuable.
