I am someone who is trying to advertise something on Reddit and I recently hired some people to use their 10+ year old 2k+ comment karma accounts to help me with this. (accounts were u/blinx0rz and u/AggressiveShirt4430). However after a week or so all their accounts were suspended for ban evasion by Reddit admins. I never knew ban evasion could be applied manually by admins. I always thought this was done programmatically.

What you are posting has to be serious for admins to take you down
I can promise it was not a serious thing my helpers were posting. It was just spammy. But both accounts were spammy in the same way (posting the same comments) and so could be easily linked together by a human looking at it.

The shocking part was that both accounts above were suspended for ban evasion by admins rather than shadowbanned.

Where you posting links to the same website

The part that worries me is outsourcing posting, because you often have zero visibility into what those accounts did before your campaign started

Right now we really cant say why the admins had to manually suspend those accounts but one thing stands out, Reddit has become more strict than we knew. In may opinion, the spamming almost on the same topic might be the trigger. Probably, they pieced it together.

Oh but I did see what these accounts did before hand. I made a post on Craigslist and I hired what appeared to be normal people

Yeah admins do it manually too especially when accounts get reported. Age and karma don't protect you if they link the accounts to the same promo banned activity.
