I've been using a VPN for 10 days, and it still shows my actual location next to "Account based in".

twitter keeps your signup data forever along with whatever gps data the app cached
try turn off geotags but if your vpn leaks dns even once its pretty much back to square one. It can take months to change and older accounts honestly seem to stay stuck

If you mean X, that label uses aggregated IP addresses, so ten days on a VPN doesn’t guarantee an update. You can display a broader region through your profile’s join date → gear icon.

That label may use account history and other signals, not just your current IP address. A VPN alone usually won’t change it, so check the platform’s location settings and support documentation.

I made a new account and bought a residential proxy which successfully changed my displayed location.

I tried using the X iOS app by connecting to my residential proxy through a proxy utility app I downloaded from the app store called Shadowrocket. But, these apps create a VPN connection and after two days, X started showing a warning on my profile that I was using a VPN. My displayed location stayed the same, but everyone could now see the VPN warning. I don't know if the issue is from Shadowrocket creating a VPN connection or my GPS location from my phone leaking.

I managed to figure out that I could configure the proxy directly through my iPhone's wifi settings which would solve that issue. However, I ran into another issue. On iOS, I can only use proxies when I'm connected to wifi not mobile data. So now I'm stuck with a solution that only works when I'm connected to wifi.

That setting usually isn’t based on your VPN alone. Platforms may consider account history, SIM details, and other location signals. Check the platform’s official region settings, since changing your IP doesn’t necessarily change your account’s registered location.
