Is EDU Guest Posting Still Worth It in 2026?

EDU backlinks can still be valuable, but the extension gives no automatic ranking boost. Relevant university resource links can help, while spammed profiles and comments may be ignored. Judge the actual page and placement.
I think they still have value, but the .edu extension alone doesn't make a backlink special. If the link is relevant and comes from a trustworthy page, great. I wouldn't go out of my way to get one just because it's from a university website.
Honestly most cheap EDU guest posts in 2026 are completely spammed out and Google just ignores them. The old student blogs and open wiki pages that get sold everywhere hold almost zero weight now.
Definately, edu backlinks are one of the important, and valuable today as like it was tomorrow, and it will remain valueable becouse .edu are not like other TLDs.
Subtle_Signal saying the .edu extension alone doesn't make a link special honestly flipped my view. I always assumed edu meant automatic authority. Now I'd check the page itself first.
I bought a service for 10 EDU backlinks last Friday but so far I have not seen much impact on my rankings. Do you think its too early to see results or could the quality and relevance of those links be the reason? Whats your experience with this?

EDU backlinks are still valuable in 2026 if they are relevant and trustworthy. Google values link quality and relevance not just the .edu domain.

Whats your opinion? Are edu backlinks still valuable for seo in 2026 or has their importance decreased?

EDU backlinks can still prove to be useful but not because of the extension of the domain alone relevance quality of editorial and worth of the page should matter more than acquiring backlinks simply for SEO purposes.

I think EDU backlinks can still be valuable, but not simply because they come from a .edu domain. Relevance, editorial quality, and the authority of the linking page matter more than the extension.

EDU links aren’t automatically powerful just because of the domain extension. Relevance, editorial quality, and genuine authority matter more. I’d prioritize earning links from trusted sites in your niche rather than chasing .edu links alone.

I wouldn’t judge results after just a few days. Check relevance, indexing and placement quality; .edu alone doesn’t guarantee value. Are these editorial links or profiles/comments?

A link from a relevant industry site can be better than an EDU guest post that looks unnatural.

Whats your opinion on university resource page links compared to relevant industry backlinks?

The old belief that Google gives a magical algorithmic boost just because a domain ends in .edu is long dead. They are evaluated like any other backlink based on topical relevance, page authority, and real traffic.

Most cheap EDU guest posts sold nowadays are on hacked student blogs, outdated library portals, or foreign subdomains stuffed with outbound spam links. Google discounts or ignores those almost immediately.

A genuine contextual link from an active, authoritative university department page or official resource list is still valuable, but paying for mass EDU guest posts is largely a waste of budget today.
