I bought an aged domain. it has a couple of crazy backlinks and already ranking for some keywords. my original goal was to post content written by chatgpt and rank. I was trying to experiment how much laziness I can get away with. here is the results:
1) google is refusing to index 100% chatgpt written content
2) google is refusing to index chatgpt written content that was edited by me
3) google is indexing 100% human written content

1 and 3 did not surprise me. what surprised me was 2.

I read here that if you edit ai written content, google cannot detect it's ai written. but even when I did that, google is refusing to index it. I added a lot of new stuff to the ai written content. I would say by word count 60% is new stuff I wrote myself. yet, google is refusing to index.

so is the only option to write things yourself 100% by hand? is there a software that can make ai written content undetectable? I think we need to go back to the good old days of spinners?
is my domain penalized now? even if I write human written content it won't rank because google thinks this guy is posting ai written content let's fuck him?

had the exact same thing on an aged domain this year and it wasnt the content. pages with zero links pointing at them just sat in discovered not indexed, ai or not. i put the same chatgpt articles on 3 support sites, pointed a few hundred automated links at those and linked the main pages from there, indexed inside 2 weeks. then i also tested one pure human page with no links on the same domain and it never went in either lol. so its not a detector, google just doesnt bother crawling pages nobody links to. dont go back to spinners, fix the links

I do not think the issue is the AI content in itself perhaps even after editing the content does not add any new value for Google to index it it would be worth looking into the reasons why it is not being indexed via Search Console and comparing the content before thinking that the domain has been penalized

You can check GSC’s indexing reports to see the exact reason those pages aren’t being indexed in Google. Even after editing, the content may still lack enough unique value or cover the same information as existing pages. You can update those pages with more updated data and see whether Google indexes them.

an old domain won't work if your new content doesnt match the topic of the archived site. Better to bring back the archived content first, wait for it to get indexed and pick up some rankings, then add the new stuff

but that doesn't explain why the 100% human written content got indexed. all pages have zero backlinks.

I dont install search console because it's spyware. I think the less google knows about me, the better.
but the human written pages that got indexed are also garbage filler content that don't add any value.

I can't impersonate the old domain for legal reasons. they might come after me.

if you do not use search console try checking your internal linking structure and sitemap depth to help Googlebot discover new pages faster.

idk about your site, but for my site in tech and shopping niche google is able to index 90% of pages created by pure ai. now, it depends on the prompt you feed. if you just ask gpt to write an article on topic X, then that's gonna get you fully ai generated content. I use some prompts that are 20 to 30 sentences longer, or about 150-200 words to ask ai to write content. Now, iam not sharing that prompt here as its unqiuely crafted by me. there are some tricks that help avoid ai-marks spilling here and there in your ai-generated text. OR, you can copy-paste the ai generated article in another ai-service free/paid which removes those ai-generated words/sentences and humanises the article. try those services which might help you.

In the recent test I ran here the majority of the content that got indexed was pure AI (albeit not ChatGPT), no human editing at all, just run through some low level automated filters. So that in itself is not a reason for lack of indexation.

If your content is well linked internally but still not getting picked up, try forcing indexing of a few of the pages through an indexer. If they index that way instead of naturally through internal linkage, it would indicate that the authority of the expired domain is not as good as those crazy backlinks would give the appearance of.

I dont think Google is refusing to index content just because it was written with AI, even if a human edited it. The bigger issue is whether the content actually brings something new or just repeats what is already ranking. You can edit AI content all day, but if there's no real value in it, why would Google index it? Thats the real problem imo.

Your own test answers the penalty question. Human written pages on the same domain got indexed, so the domain is not penalized. Google also isn't skipping pages based on an AI detector, so undetectable tools and spinners are chasing the wrong problem, and spun text is the quickest way to a real quality issue.

First check what GSC says for the skipped URLs, discovered or crawled, currently not indexed. If it's crawled, they were read and judged to add nothing new. Editing AI text in place usually keeps the same skeleton and the same points the top results already cover, so 60% new words can still add no new information. Also your three groups are only comparable if topic, publish date and internal link position were the same, otherwise you are measuring something else. Fix that first.

Non-indexing alone doesn’t prove AI detection or a penalty. Google allows useful AI-assisted content. Compare crawl dates and GSC’s indexing reasons across both groups before attributing the difference to how they were written.

You can check GSC’s indexing reports to see the exact reason those pages aren’t being indexed in Google. Even after editing, the content may still lack enough unique value or cover the same information as existing pages. You can update those pages with more updated data and see whether Google indexes them.
Yeah a good check on GSC can reveal possible problems with indexing one's pages.

perhaps it is not about the problem of ai detection but rather the fact that each page is providing google with a reason to index it as compared to other existting pages which are just like it.just bcz u add more words does not mean that the page will be indexed.i would create some experience based articles first nd see how google indexes them.

aged domains might also be carrying a load so make sure that those aged backlinks r still relevant to the current niche before pointing the finger at AI content for all indexed URLs

I think AI content can work too, but just changing some words may not be enough. Adding useful information and making the article different from others seems more important. Maybe the aged domain could also be part of the problem.

Old domains could possibly have good connections yet find it hard to index new pages hence Ill post some gd articles from humans and observe whether these are indexed before implementing a new plan.

i dont think ai content alone is the main issue here. even after editing then a page may not get indexed if it offers little unique value or has crawling and indexing issues. i would check google search console for the exact reason, compare the pages with indexed competitors and improve the original insights, examples and usefulness. i wouldnt use spinners or ai detectors to make content undetectable. not getting indexed doesnt automatically mean the domain is penalized

possibly the human edits are still addressing the same topics as all of the other search results i would do an index comparison with non indexed pages to determine any real benefit before thinking that google has a prblm with ai content
