Hey Everyone

Most people mention the same basic Google My Business ranking factors, but I’m sure there are some lesser-known ones that actually move the needle. What hidden or underrated GMB factors have helped you rank faster or higher? Would appreciate insights from anyone who’s tested them.

Prioritize niche-specific, long-tail keywords in your Q&A section and regularly post content with geo-tagged images. User behavior signals like direct search clicks and time spent on your listing from Maps are critical, under-the-radar factors.

getting and replying to reviews with keywords in them

get different users, sessions and devices to interct with your Google business profile. It doesnt necessarily have to be through reviews or comments. actions like requesting directions or being physically near your business can also help demonstrate its popularity. The more popular your business appears to be the more likely google is to recommend it.

One thing people overlook is choosing the right primary category. Even a well optimized profile can struggle if the category doesnt match the main service.

well, to be completely honest, there have been occasions when people have taken into account the reviews nd the post but had no interest in the category at all. It could matter. and that is why I am just curious if there is anyone here who has changed the category nd seen how it ranks on the map?

local relevance and a complete, active profile are underrated. Keep business details consistent, add genuine photos, get regular customer reviews, and build relevant local citations.

My trick lies in the customer reviews. I have specific keywords I target whenever I am replying to a review.

I have also found category selection to make a difference with local rankings, particularly if the primary service does not align well with the selected category. review nd photo help build trust too, but i wouldn’t try to work in keyword in every response; it gets spammy vry quickly.

sometimes u can use keywords but It will cause harm in the long run. Diversity of review, the customer clicking on the image
and getting directions important. That is why we provide GMB service to our customers via a bot programme

Two underrated things that consistently move the needle for me are reviews with customer photos and matching your website structure to your secondary categories.

When a customer leaves a review that naturally mentions the service and includes a real photo from their phone, that review carries a lot more weight for local pack rankings than plain text. Also, most people set their secondary GMB categories and stop there, but building dedicated pages on the linked website for each secondary category and linking them properly makes a noticeable difference. Consistent review velocity and real engagement like direction requests matter way more now than mass citations.

Rank trackers hide the first two. Proximity decides a lot, so the same profile ranks differently depending on where the searcher stands. One position check from the business address is misleading. Use a geo grid and read the coverage, not a single number.

Second is the URL set as the profile website. A home page that doesn't match the primary category wastes it. Point it at the matching service page with the city in the title, and that is the page worth sending links to.

Review text counts too. Reviews that mention the service and area in the customer's own words seem to help more than star count alone, but only organic ones. Anything that looks seeded gets filtered or ends in a suspension.

One underrated GMB factor is choosing the right primary category and keeping your business info consistent across your site and Google profile. Genuine reviews that mention your services help too.

the hours one is underrated imo. open now acts like a filter, ive seen listings fall out of the pack in the evening just because they show closed, so if they really take calls late set the hours to match. second is the services and products sections, fill them with the exact wording people search, not your internal names for stuff. third is review recency over count, a profile that got 40 reviews last year and nothing since tends to slip behind one getting a couple a week. and stop checking rank from the office, a geo grid shows where youre actually weak.

One such aspect which may be easily over looked is that of the matching up of the services provided by local pages and GBP in relation to the service areas minor discrepancies may affect relevance despite good reviews imo.
