Have you ever stopped link building to a page which is already ranking well?

Yes, i would not force more links into a page which is ranking good and doing well. sometime the smarter move is to build authority links for the supporting pages

I suggest you to not stop link-building. If you want sustainable ranking then you need backlinks building to sustain. Link-building is like one of the top ranking factors. If you want sustainable growth you need link-building. Without it you cannot rank for long time.

If the page already ranks well, stop building random new links; focus on content updates and internal linking instead.
