Should be Windows.

Only local node.js project will be running on Chrome.

So a very cheap and basic package will be enough.

Isn’t better for you to run your project locally at your computer?

The best and most affordable option for you is to use a service provider like InterServer or DGRDP, where you can try out an RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) instance for just 7$ per month. Since the operating system and Chrome browser consume a fair amount of memory, choose a plan with at least 2 GB of RAM to ensure smooth performance. When purchasing, make sure that the package includes full administrative RDP access, this will allow you to set up Node. js and Chrome according to your needs.

For a budget Windows VPS, Hyonix and Contabo are usually the cheapest mainstream options that work well for basic tasks. You can also check the Hosting section in the BHW Marketplace, as several sellers offer basic Windows RDPs starting around 5 to 7 dollars a month.

Just keep in mind that Windows Server plus a running Chrome instance eats up memory pretty fast, so try to get at least 2GB to 4GB of RAM even for a simple Node.js script. Anything with 1GB RAM on Windows will likely freeze once Chrome opens.

Racknerd or contabo are super cheap for low spec windows vps just grab a promo deal on lowendbox and it will easily handle a basic nodejs and chrome setup.

tbh, contabo or racknerd should give you a try as windows vps option , but you need to ensure that a windows license and full RDP are provided. Previously I tried using Chrome on low RAM, and it worked poorly, so at least 2-4GB RAM will be necessary for Node.js + Chrome.

compare OVHcloud and Contabo but check the Windows licence is included before ordering. keep in mind that running Chrome continuously can use more RAM than expected so I’d avoid the very smallest plans.

The cheapest option is to get free trial VPS from Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, Oracle, Alibaba Cloud, etc. which offer up to 1 year hosting. If your project starts giving return on investment, you can either continue with the one that gives best results or switch to some other hosting.

Starblazer's free-trial tip is the one I'll actually try first. Somers asking about the Contabo catch is fair though. That $7 price tag does feel suspiciously low. Anyone here actually run anything on one?

I usually use Vultr with discount codes. Occasionally, I also buy a few accounts that come with discount codes. This helps me save a significant amount of money.
