I’d prefer niche relevance over DR alone. A relevant site with real traffic seems more valuable to me than a high-DR site with little connection to the niche. Curious what others are seeing in 2026.

Depends what you mean by relevant. For local clients the links that moved anything were local, not niche. A plumber on the town paper or the chamber site, not a plumbing blog in another country.

High DR with zero traffic did nothing we could see.

What niche is it, and is it national or local?

High DR may look great on ur report but i have noticed people totally forgetting that the linking website is actually indexed, crawled and has got any traffic.

one valid link that is related to the page topic is more useful than going after DR numbers for a spreadsheet when each link originates from the same guest post network.

I’d prioritize niche relevance over DR alone. A backlink from a relevant website with genuine content and an audience can be more valuable than a high-DR link from an unrelated site.

I prefer niche-relevant backlinks because they provide useful context and can bring targeted traffic. DR is worth considering too, but I think relevance, link quality, and a natural backlink profile matter more than DR alone.

niche relevance with genuine organic traffic will always perform better than a high dr link from an unrelated site.

Niche relevant backlinks always win. DR is a vanity metric.

I'd go for niche relevant backlinks over DR. A link from a reputable site in your niche is going to be far more valuable than a link from a high DR site that has no relevance at all. I look at relevance, site quality, and whether the link is a natural fit. DR is useful as a benchmark, but I wouldn't use it as the sole deciding factor.

Niche relevance always beats high DR all day long a backlink from an active blog in your exact space carries way more weight than a random link from a DR 80 site that posts about everything.

Fair point from legendprime about the DR-80 site that posts about everything. DR was the first thing I checked before, but now I'm judging the actual site first and the metric second.

niche-relevant, especially in competitive niches. a high DR link from an unrelated site does very little for me, while a few relevant ones with real traffic actually move rankings. DR is fine as a first filter but relevance decides

Relevance wins most of the time. a DR 20 site in your niche with real traffic beats a DR 70 general blog selling posts to everyone. ideal is both but if I have to pick it’s niche

Expect each reply with a different opinion. Some will reply with their experience, others will suggest what they offer, and newbies will repeat randomly lol.

Relevancy matters with a lot of things, and it also looks like a d0 follow and no follow myth. You can get an expensive niche edit link from one site, and you can also create para sites and fill some pillar pages and build tier 2 around it and rank. Valuable links come down to many factors, not just one thing.

Non related root domains are still decent. DR and multiple links matter more than a high DR single link.

Assuming these are sites with traffic, Niche relevant backlinks will always be #1

I wouldn’t ignore auth completely especially in competitive niches. Ideally you want a natural mix of relevant sites with different authority levels rather than chasing one metric.

Having a multiple backlinks from reffering domains much helpful and gives more ranking signals than just targeting one niche related DR link.

In my experience, links from sites closely related to your niche tend to help more than a high DR link with no topical connection, especially in competitive spaces.
