While EDU backlinks can certainly provide value, having a .edu domain is not enough to make a backlink strong.

More important factors include relevancy, page quality, organic traffic, and proper placement.

edu links useful but the domain extension alone not make them valuable.pay more attention to how relevant the site is and the quality of the page and where the link is placed.

I would first see whether the university site has been indexed and actually has any outbound links before spending a single dime on i; the thing is, some edu vendors are jst reselling the same old dead links again.

Google doesn't give a site extra ranking authority just because it uses an .edu domain. Paying for commercial links on academic sites because of the domain's reputation is much closer to link spam than some special SEO shortcut. An .edu link can still be useful when it's a real editorial mention or comes from a relevant department or resource page , I'd look at the actual page and why the link exists rather than paying extra just for the .edu extension

I agree but I have also seen websites rank on google first page within a week and maintain their rankings. Seo is more than just domain authority or age.

If they are relevant to your site then yes they can be very valuable for the modern day SEO of 2026.

I would verify if the university page had an actual audience first some edublog guest posts may look good on paper but give absolutely no signals apart from the domain extension.

EDU backlinks can still be valuable, but the extension gives no automatic ranking boost. Relevant university resource links can help, while spammed profiles and comments may be ignored. Judge the actual page and placement.

I think they still have value, but the .edu extension alone doesn't make a backlink special. If the link is relevant and comes from a trustworthy page, great. I wouldn't go out of my way to get one just because it's from a university website.

Subtle_Signal saying the .edu extension alone doesn't make a link special honestly flipped my view. I always assumed edu meant automatic authority. Now I'd check the page itself first.

Yes, there are still valuable in 2026, but not just because they come from edu domain. The relevance, content quality and the anchor text matter more than the .edu extension alone.
