SEO teaches you a lot but not every lesson comes cheap.

Maybe you wasted money on the wrong backlinks, hired the wrong person or worked on a site for months only to see no real results.

We have all made mistakes along the way.

What is one SEO mistake that cost you money or time and what did you learn from it?

Let's share some real experiences, no judgement! We have all made mistakes and learned things the hard way at some point.

IMO, One mistake was building too many backlinks too quickly. I learned that link building should be gradual and focused on relevance and quality rather than just increasing link numbers.

For me was not posting consistently for at least 4-5 days per week. Posting once in a full moon can slow your website's/blog's growth.

IMo, focusing too much on backlinks while ignoring issues on site itself. If pages don't match search intent or have tech issues, building more links might not help much. check with basics right before throwing more money at link building.

One mistake I made was expecting results too quickly. I changed my SEO strategy too often instead of giving it enough time to work. This led to wasted time and inconsistent results.

I learned that SEO requires patience, proper tracking, and consistency. Now I prefer to test one approach at a time, monitor the results, and make changes based on data rather than assumptions.

Sometimes, the biggest lesson is knowing when to wait and when to change direction.

Wait, never thought GSERP's point about fixing pages before buying links would hit this hard. I kept throwing money at links while my pages barely matched intent. Lesson learned the expensive way.

One mistake I see people make is spending too much on backlinks before making sure the site itself is solid.

The first one is overvaluing DR and DA while evaluating the backlink instead of looking at whether it's topical and whether it actually brings organic traffic to the website.

What I've learned from my mistakes is that the numbers do not always equal value.

Compare your top pages in GSC to see where the impression increase is coming from.
Yes, compare pages within Google Search Console relative to the prior time period in order to determine what is causing the traffic increase. After that, see what queries generated those impressions.

i believe that one of the most important mistakes is that of doing several things simultaneously. when there is a problem in the rankings or even in the traffic flow, it will be difficult to dettermine which one caused the problem bcuz all changes were done at the same time.
