What kind of expired domains hold higher value?

How easy it can can be pronounced, donnot include dashes or slashes as they make your domain name hard to type, also the name should be short so it can be handled easily. finally, buy from a reputable seller.

We have been 100s of PBN building building for our clients and we dont see price as a metric to choose first.

The $46K asking is not worth of the SEO power the domain retains.

Domain investors and SEOs evaluate expired domains very differently. We need to check the historical backlink profile, Wayback history, organic history, link decays, domain quality, and also there is SEO risk like spam markers, unnatural link velocity, suspicious redirects, and there is a lot of things to choose from.

DR alone doesn't tell you much. It shows very little data. I'd rather acquire a clean DR 20 domain with 30 relevant editorial referring domains than an inflated DR 70.

Also, expired domain doesn't automatically retain its power with the previous ranking after repurposing or redirecting it to a totally new domain.

$46K looks like a domain investor's asking price, not an SEO one. there are two different kinds of value here. for resale it's the name itself: short, dictionary word, .com, and whether there are end buyers, brands it fits. for SEO it's authority, topical links and how well the old site's content matches what you'll build on it. bargainbed is right that the SEO side doesn't justify that price, but an investor prices off comparable name sales, not links. decide first what you need, a brand or an SEO asset. they're two different markets with different prices

I will look for expired domains with a clean history, relevant backlinks, genuine past content, and quality referring domains. Niche relevance and link quality matter more than DR alone. Also check for spammy anchors,

I have the same question in mind, as I’m new to buying expired domains. Besides backlinks, what else should I check before buying one? Does the domain name itself affect its value too?

Nobody above actually hit the real reason here. "Jiudian" means hotel in Chinese pinyin, which makes it an ultra-premium category killer .com rather than a standard SEO expired domain.

besides links i'd check how many times it dropped and changed hands in the last few years, frequent flips usually mean someone already squeezed it. also what was on it in its last live year, casino or pharma shows up more often than you'd think. the name mostly matters for resale, for seo it's more important that the links and old content are about the same topic as the site you're planning

Yeah I totally agree with you. Niche relevance and link quality are like the KING and QUEEN in chess.

expired domains hold higher value when they feature strong clean SEO assets high topical relevance and brandable cheracteristics rather than just high raw numbers or age

The price may be high because of its short name, branding potential, keyword value, and demand. When choosing a domain, consider memorability, spelling, relevance to your business, extension, and budget. A high asking price doesn’t always mean the domain is worth that much, so compare similar sales before buying.

Clean history matters more than metrics. check archive.org for spam/casino/chinese content, look for real editorial links instead of a pile of directories. a domain that was an actual business or blog in your niche is usually worth way more than a high DR one

That's the asking price
If you look at bids, you'll see that it's nowhere near that in most cases
