It's helpful to update your audience that you have new content uploaded so they not only gets notified but also gets aware by your stories and helps non followers understand what your content is about.

it is possible that they may be underesttimated but i do not think stories will suddenly attract large audiences. i would utilize them as another point of contact in between regular posts ask a question, post an unpolished post, or even tease people with something. if people start interacting nd viewing it often, then u know it is good for ur audience.
 
I think it is quite effective when used correctly; it reminds your followers of your status updates and ongoing activity. I often see this feature used by accounts with large followings.

They can be worth it if you’re already posting daily
Stories are low effort, disappear after 24h, and help keep your profile active without clogging your main feed.

Stories were vry helpful in warming up existing followers rather than discovery in my opinion. I would use stories in polls, instant updates and driving back to new posts.
 
Try posting Stories consistently for a couple of weeks and see whether you get views, replies, profile visits, or other engagement. If your audience responds to them, keep using them. if nobody seems to care, there’s no need to force it.

imo i would like to use stories as the additional content instead of making an effort to promote it as an additional way to grow. it could be just an introdduction before the start of any video some video from behind the scenes or a simple question for followers to respond to.
 
use stories for quick updates and extra engagement but wouldnt rely on them for main growth.
