YouTube Shorts really drive views for longer videos?

Hey everyone,
I’m wondering whether posting YouTube Shorts on the same channel actually drives views and subscribers to long form videos, or whether it will “mess up” the audience profile?
Many people say Shorts help increase Subs quickly, but this audience doesn’t watch long-form videos, which lowers the channel’s CTR and Retention.
Are you guys running Shorts and long form on the same channel or keeping Shorts on a separate channel, and how effective is it in actually driving views?
shorts have reach but not always people who would watch a 10 min long video. Id trim videos that have something similar in them and see how many people end up clicking on them and not just subscribe to the channel.

the imo shorts are good for serving as a teaser to the video nd not merely for gaining subscribbers. even if people like the short video nd have no intention of viewing any other longer videos, then it will be of little use in terms of subscribers.

Shorts can funnel viewers to the full upload; my channel's 12-minute tutorial jumped from 800 to 1,200 views after I posted a 15-second Short linking it in the description. but if the Short's topic diverges too much, the click-through drops below 5% according to the Reach tab in YouTube Studio.

I think you should focus exclusively on creating Shorts content rather than mixing Shorts and long-form videos; otherwise, the YouTube algorithm won't be able to understand what your channel is about or deliver your videos to your target audience.

depends on niche and audience.if your shorts and long videos cover the same topics then there is a better chance of turning shorts viewers into regular viewers.

I’d keep both on the same channel if the Shorts and long videos target the same audience. Shorts can help people discover you, but they won’t automatically watch your longer videos. Check your Analytics to see whether Shorts viewers are also interested in your long-form content; if the topics are very different, a separate channel may make more sense.

Yes, absolutely. If you edit the content on short videos correctly and guide your audience from short videos to longer videos, increasing subscribers is entirely possible.

I regularly post both long and short, as I believe both types of content will generate views. The importance of audience retention remains the same, whether it’s a short video or a long one.

Shorts can bring new viewers, but converting them to long-form viewers depends on how closely the topics match. I’d keep both on one channel if they serve the same audience, then track returning viewers and long-form watch time. Separate channels make sense when the audiences differ significantly.

in my opinion, combining both Shorts and long-form videos on the same channel is still very effective if they share the same topic, because Shorts serve to attract traffic and new followers

Yeah it's possible in that case that your shorts are related to those long term videos you are posting on your channel. When you post a short video on youtube about anything which is interesting and it gives you the best reach and audience like it then they are waiting for the full video. For example you post a short about any history incident and audience like it and you observe the more interested people comments for the next part that's means they are waiting for long video. This case will help you to get reach on long term videos by shorts.

yes it does and it actually works really good to boost your long-form videos aswell

Yes, if the content is standalone. Because your entire content ends there. Only a small percentage of people explore your channel further.

If short-form video is part of the long-form video, people tend to watch that too. The hook, curiosity, and substance play a role. If its help then thanks for pm

YouTube says Shorts performance doesn’t hurt long-form recommendations. I’d keep both together when audiences match, add Related Video links, and track long-form views and retention.

I run a channel that focuses on long-form content, but I also create Shorts to grow it faster. Although my subscriber count has increased more quickly, the views on my long-form videos haven’t increased.

Short and long videos can be posted on the same channel, but the audience is usually different; it's unlikely that most users who watch your short videos will also watch your long ones.

If your Shorts consist of content taken from your existing videos simply edited or rearranged. it is best to post them on the same channel and direct your audience to watch the full-length videos.

It works best when Shorts target the same audience as your long videos. Random Shorts can bring subscribers who never watch your longer content, so test both formats and compare returning viewers rather than subscriber growth alone.
