Currently check relevance and real traffic first, and DA last. I'm leaning towards 70-80% relevant and 20-30% high-authority general links.

Relevance and real traffic for sure is the most important one. HA General is good for homepage links.

for me, it beats any other site in terms of relevance desspite the difference in DA score. i would verify the traffic, quality content nd relevance of that site on the subject. the high DA score but totally irrelevant site will not be as valuable as the low da one, which relates directly to the topic.

Relevance and real traffic would be my first checks, then authority after that. A high DA site in a totally unrelated niche isnt automatically a good link. 70-80% relevant with some stronger general authority links sounds like a pretty balanced mix to me.

The 70/30 split is sensible, but I think relevance keeps getting measured at the wrong level. Most people check the site's niche and never look at the page the link actually sits on.

A "niche relevant" site that publishes guest posts on every subject under the sun is a general site with a niche name on it. Flip side: a general-interest domain that runs one properly written article about your topic, with your link inside the body, is relevant at the page level, and the page is what gets crawled.

My order of checks: is the linking page indexed -> is the article genuinely about the subject you want to rank for -> what else is on that page -> real traffic -> DR last, same as the OP has it.

On traffic, confirm it by keyword profile rather than the top line number. A site doing 20k visits off one viral post in an unrelated category is not the signal it looks like.

One from my own work: a Canadian e-juice shop, DR 21, around 9.6k monthly organic and 313 terms ranking top three. Plenty of what points at it is general local stuff where the article was built around the product terms. Nobody ever checked what category the host called itself.

I agree that relevance and actual traffic must come before DA.

The right balance of relevant link building and some authoritative sites makes a lot more sense than DA alone.

page, not site. a relevant site that sells posts on every topic is an irrelevant page with a nice domain. i check what the page itself ranks for and whether its indexed, dont care about the split. 70/30 is fine if the 70 are real pages

I totally agree with you, if a backlink gets you traffic and is from a relevant website then it is a no brainer including it.

placement matters too even on a relevant site a forced guest post or random looking link probably won’t add much value I’d rather have a few links that actually fit the article than worry too much about hitting an exact 70/30 split

Guest posts are not the only way to get links. You can also earn them by creating useful content or working with other sites in your niche.

a guest post should be intelligible without the backlink if the audience on that website will never had any interest in your topic that high DA value is doing the trick for you i thinks
