Fixed monthly link packages make budgeting easier, and clients know what they’re getting. But SEO priorities can change as rankings improve, competitors become stronger, or technical and content issues arise.

Sometimes a website needs more link building, while other times, improving content or fixing on-page issues should take priority.

Personally, I think the strategy should guide the work rather than forcing the same link count every month. Keeping the budget consistent while adjusting the link types and quantities based on priorities can offer more flexibility.

What works better for you: fixed monthly link counts or a flexible SEO roadmap?

Flexible plan makes more sense to me.

Some months need more link building, while others need content or on page improvements.

It’s better to adjust based on what the site actually needs rather than chasing a fixed number of links every month.

i prefer a flexible SEO roadmap with a consistent budget because not every site needs the same number of backlinks every month some months fixing technical issues or improving existing content can bring more value than building extra links just to meet a fixed target

i would go with flexible SEO roadmap with a fixed monthly budget. The monthly strategy would decide whether its links, content, technical issues, or on page implementation rather than focusing on the same number of links every month,

I think it depends on the client's budget and how their SEO team is structured. Some clients work with us specifically for monthly link building because they already have an in-house team handling content and on-page SEO.

For other clients, especially those affected by a Google update, we need to take a broader approach. That could involve competitor analysis, content updates, internal linking improvements, technical checks, and off-page SEO.

So, I don't think there's a one-size-fits-all approach. We need to identify the actual gaps, understand what the client needs, and allocate the budget accordingly. Sometimes link building is the priority other times, we need to improve the overall SEO foundation before scaling backlinks.

It is always best to have flexible SEO strategies that allow you to consider factors such as content rather than concentrating on fixed link counts.

A flexible SEO roadmap works better because every website has different needs. Some months may require backlinks, while others need better content or technical fixes. Keeping the budget consistent but adjusting the work based on results can bring better long-term growth.

Flexible approach.
First I would see are the target pages improving? did last months links get indexed? did the competitors added new links? If a page is stuck on page 2 and content and technical side are clean then next month is to get more links. If I built links and the page didnt improve so I would stop adding more links and check at content depth and internal linking first.

thats how you know if you need more links or need to focus on the content.
