Buying news article for local SEO

Hello,
I was wondering if it really helps with traffic to buy a news article of a good sized local news portal or if this is wasted money, thanks!

Yes it absolutely helps build local authority. In fact I would suggest you reach out to as many news authority websites in your area as possible. Even if they mention your brand, it tremendously helps with transferring authority to your brand name. It's good. Go for it
 
Depends what you want from it. For traffic, a local news article usually gets read the week it goes up and then mostly sits there.

Before paying ask the site for view numbers on a few of their past sponsored posts, and whether yours gets a sponsored label.

What kind of business is it, and are you after the visitors or the link?

Its a local Web Design Company, more about boosting my domain authority and visibility as a few big competitors are mostly results 1-5
 
For local seo, press releases don't bring direct leads. But a do-follow link from a genuine local news site gives your google maps entity a solid geo relevance boost.

I am still new to local SEO techniques but I think it depends on the type of news site and its relevancy to the business Local news article will definitely bring some visibility and referral traffic but not affect rankings.

For local SEO, you can also keep working on google business profile, local citations, and niche links.

Sure, it can help if the news site is actually relevant and has real local traffic. You can get a brand mention and some referral visitors.
I've seen it move the needle for local packs when the article feels truly natural
