Are people actually reading captions anymore?

People generally only watch subtitles when the video features different content and language, or when the content moves too quickly to analyze easily.

I can't speak for most people, but for me personally, I certainly dont mind reading captions, in fact I prefer them a lot.

yeah, some do, but honestly most people just skim unless the first line catches their attention, so i keep captions short

Totally depends on the niche, nobody is reading a long caption on a silly meme but for business or educational stuff, people will still read a longer text if it's good, though honestly with the shorter attention spans of younger generations these days you really have to hook them right away or they will just swipe past no matter how good the text is... :D

If you mean post descriptions, try a question that refers to a useful detail in the caption, then check whether replies address it. That gives you some evidence of reading beyond likes, though it won't capture people who read without commenting.

People still read them when the first line grabs attention, but long captions need to offer something useful to keep them interested.

I think people still read them if the first line catches their attention. Most just scroll past long captions, so I keep them short and add more detail only when needed.

Yeah, some people still read them, especially when the caption adds something useful or interesting. I think the hook matters more than the length.

Tested this on short videos: burned-in captions kept watch time up since most people scroll with sound off, but the written post caption barely got read past line one.

Honestly, I sometimes read the caption only after watching the whole video Then I realize the caption explained something I completely missed. Guess I should start reading before
scrolling to the next video!

Lol, sometimes I spend more time deciding whether to read the caption than actually watching the video. Maybe that's why I miss half the context!

Sometimes I jump straight into the comments before even finishing the caption Then everyone seems to be talking about something I missed, and I end up going back to the post like I skipped an episode of a series lol.

Yeah but only if the video gives them a reason to. Nobody's reading a whole essay under a random reel but if the caption has the actual steps or something useful that wasn't in the video people will open it

Some people read captions, but usually only when the first line gives them a reason to continue.

Haha, I do this too. I read the caption and forget what it said a few seconds later, then have to read it again lol. Sometimes I think I spend more time scrolling than actually paying attention.
