What is your go to method for internal linking on a clean content site? Do you prefer doing it completely manually as you write or are you using any specific plugins that handle contextual links well without making a mess? Let me know what works best.

I like contextual links done manually, particularly for a newly created website. Connect supporting articles to the main pillar article and link related articles whenever it is really helpful. Plugins could provide suggestions, but it won't be advisable to automate everything.

Manual while writing, but the part most people skip is going backwards. When a new post goes live, search your own site for old pages that already mention the topic and link from them to the new one. Start with the old pages that already have backlinks or traffic, they pass the most.

Auto link plugins that swap keywords for links tend to repeat the same exact anchor everywhere, and that gets messy fast. If you use one, keep it on suggestion mode and approve each link by hand.

I prefer doing it manually for important pages. I use Link Whisper to find missed opportunities, but I check every suggestion before adding it. The main thing is keeping links relevant and using natural anchor text instead of forcing keywords everywhere.

Surely, particularly with a fresh domain where links should always have some purpose. I use plugins to generate links, yet only as suggestions; manually creating them helps me maintain the natural structure and ensure that users gain something from it.

as far as I am concerned, I conduct internal linking on my own. as far as I am concerned, using plugins can be useful when it come to identifying missed opportunitie however, I would never advise you to allow the plugins to create those links for u. after creating a new page, I search through my previous pages for any relevant information.

I do internal linking manually. For this I never use same keywords rather use alternate keyword to link it to the page. For eg, instead of adding internal link to'low carbs diet plan' I intend to add it to alternate term like 'a diet plan with low carbs' this make the content highly crawlable. I never add internal link to terms like 'read more' 'know more' 'click here' as such anchor tags cause confusion for search engine to know what internal page is all about. Also I try to link my content to old high rank content to build credibility. For all this manual internal linking is important.

One thing I always try to do is update older posts whenever I publish something new. Sometimes those existing pages are already getting traffic, so adding a relevant link from them can help users discover the new content too.

I prefer manual links for the important pages and automation for finding opportunities
I export pages with high impressions from search console then look for relevant articles, plugins tend to overuse the same anchors and add links where they don't really fit

i usually add links manually while writing, just connect pages that actually fit the topic, auto plugins can make a mess if you rely on them too much.

Silo and pr sculpting work internally

Most relevant pages should get most linkage, burocratic pages less. This is easy to model on a wordpress theme.

BTW the easiest way to destroy your SEO is to use a canned theme

You can use link whisper to make things much easier
Start with pages that have already gained traction

I normally make sure that pages are crawled but I never take users to further pages rather, I add links that users need to know for the next step. There is no way for plugins to knows this context.

I usually add links myself while writing, then go back and check if I missed any good spots. I dont trust auto link plugins too much, they can add links where they dont really fit.

Just do it manually while writing or right after. Drop a natural link when it actually fits the sentence and helps the reader.

Plugins usually end up looking forced or linking the same stuff too much.

For a clean content site, I prefer a topic-cluster approach with manual control over contextual links. I don’t think fully automated internal linking is ideal because a link should help the reader understand the topic or find the next useful page, not just exist to pass SEO value.

I keep a list of my main pages and related articles, then link them naturally whenever I publish new content. This keeps internal linking organized without overdoing it.
