Are Instagram followers becoming less important?

yeah, followers still matter but Reels can reach alot of non-followers now, so content quality is probly more important.

Reels make it easier for smaller accounts to reach new people, so follower growth may not be the only goal anymore.

Both has their own significance. Having high number of followers increase credability and social proof. But non followers are also impotant for better account as instagram will show your content to random people based on their watch time and interest. So, create content that keep your existing followers engaged and make it easy for non-followers to discover you.

The number of followers on Instagram is always the most important factor. Currently, Reel always recommends that more views contribute to increasing the number of followers.
Yes followers are your content distributor when you have them, but always forst monetize views (DM engagement system) , here you make the most money, then later with that money you can spend on ads to monetize your followers, because only 1-2% of them seeing your reels. But people not understand....

followers count is just vanity metrics now, brands care more about engagement and authentic reach, if you can't convert likes into sales or community, those numbers don't matter.

Although the number of followers no longer determines reach, they still play a crucial role in maintaining a loyal audience and leveraging Stories, making it possible to convert views into followers

feels like non followers make up a hug part of reel views now.
While followers arent as important in the discovery process they will be vital when trying to verify whether the account were credible enough. Getting ur reels pushed to random strangers is only part of the task the profile needs to convince them to stay.

i think followers still matter for social proof but engagement and content quality matter more for long term growth especially with recent algorithm changes

i think followers still matter for building a loyal audience but Reels can reach plenty of people who have never seen your account before these days I’d focus more on watch time shares saves and whether viewers visit your profile or follow after watching

Yeah, followers still matter, but Reels can reach far beyond your existing audience now. I’d focus more on watch time, shares, and saves than follower count alone.

Followers have been a vanity metric for a while now. The algorithm shifted almost entirely to interest-based distribution via reels, meaning watch time, completion rate, and DMs/shares determine your reach not your follower count. A fresh account with 50 followers can easily pull 500k views if the retention holds, while an account with 100k dead followers gets stuck at 200 views per reel. The only real value followers give you now is social proof for profile conversions and a warm audience for stories.

i am not think followers are becoming useless just because reels can reach lots of non followers. a solid follower base still matters for sponsorships leads and other ways of making money from account.

You should try to turn on followers to followers, because ALL of your followers get notified when a reel or any other of your uploads comes up. Also in terms of monetizing your account, you can usually get better prices (from sponsors for example) if you have a large following.

No, Instagram followers are definitely important. You get engagement from there, and it will recommend your posts to your followers and to others, so I say it's definitely important to have them.

Yeah, followers still matter, but Reels can reach a lot of people who don’t follow you yet. I’d focus on making content people want to watch, share, and save, then use that reach to turn new viewers into followers.

I’m the same way.
I tell myself I need to work or do research,
but I always end up spending the day watching YouTube, eating, showering, watching more YouTube, catching a movie,
and playing games—all while telling myself, "I'll just start tomorrow."
