I've been looking at expired domains recently and there are still quite a few interesting ones available.
But I'm not sure if they're still worth the effort compared with starting a fresh domain.
For those actually using expired domains, are you still getting good results from them?

Definitely worth it, i have been dominating a niche for some years and now my competitor is outranking me just with expired domains.

Now im forced to do the same thing to catch up.

TBH, expired domain can be gud but I would be very selective while selecting them. History, right niche, and links are more imprtant than high DR. some may be gud nd others are just old domain with loads of spammy links lol

I don't think that works. Google gives more value for your own branding.

It is definitely working for my competitor.

Reverse engineered it and he buys expired blogs, restores them (i think with archivarix) , and then he just uses my content, rewrites it automatically with ai. Outranking me currently. (both on bing and google, while i was dominating page 1 for years.)

He uses this workflow with like 20 sites

A fresh domain is easier to brand, but a good expired domain can save some time if its old history matches your topic.

Though i am relatively new in SEO techniques i have been thinking about this issue myself as well in my opinion it is quite important to take into account the background of an expired domain as well as its link building profile.

They can still work, but the domain history matters more than the age itself, clean backlinks, relevant topical history and no previous spam are key.

I’d always check the backlink profile and historical use carefully before buying; otherwise, a fresh domain can be the better option.

Google's current policy is important here: buying an expired domain and repurposing it primarily to manipulate rankings with low-value content is explicitly considered expired-domain abuse.

The market for those domains is actually quite stable, my friend provided you can find a new customer base with a need for them. There are some excellent domains in the mix if you leverage them correctly and build a solid development plan around them.

Expired domains can still work if the history and backlinks are clean. Otherwise, a fresh domain is usually the safer option.

Yess but as long as uhh get a fresh drop with working backlinks, ranking can be dn pretty quickly but one spam link from a PBN network is enough to destroy ur entire site within a feww weeks.

Yes, expired domains are still very useful even in big 2026. but the thing is, you need to find the best and safest ones so you can re rank that website. First make a checklist, and then apply those criteria to your expired domain findings to see how they stack up.

Still worth it imo but only if the backlink profile is clean and the old topic matches what you will put on it. Check the archive history and the anchors first, a lot of them are spammy or got penalised before they dropped.
If the history is off, a fresh domain is less hassle.

Definitely, it still working, but you have to check the backlink history and any spam if they have. A domain without any spam can still give you good results.

Fresh domains are easier because you start from zero. With expired domains, you have to check the old history first.

They are definitely still effective, but the margin for error is much smaller now. If you try to swap niches or use a domain with hidden foreign spam history, google’s spambrain updates will just suppress the link juice anyway.
