How much "stable" income did you need before quitting your 9-5?

I’m making decent money online, but the "instability" of the internet scares me.

Did you wait until your online income doubled your salary, or did you just "burn the boats" and hope for the best?

A 12 months buffer and twice your current salary will be a good place to quit your job. But more than your current income, you need to determine if the source of your income is sustainable in the long term.

1 quarter - 3 consecutive month of consistent income. Anywhere between 1/2 of salary to twice the salary.
Doesn't matter. What matter is consistency.
What did your 9-5 salary job gave you? Consistency.

For me, it wasn't just about the money. It was more about changing my habits and mindset, realizing that consistency is key.

Been scared , probably everyone went t through this, except for the early birds on internet marketing
Consistent earnings over 6 months to 1 year
A plan that has some level of surety based on experience
Ans a gut that says this or never

For me personally, I wanted at least 3–4 months of stable income saved before seriously thinking about quitting a 9–5. It gave me peace of mind to focus on building my own projects without stressing over bills while I scaled things up.

Getting a stable income from online is tough concept. Since online is so much unstable. And certainly the amount isn't consistent. Since the inflation is a common thing.
So what? Doesnt mean 9-5 is the only way

I didn't quit until my online income consistently doubled my 9-5 salary for at least 6 months. having a solid 6 month savings buffer also helps a lot with the mental stress of income instability.

I quit my job when it matched my salary for half a year and went full time into online marketing.

Now that sounds great but what I effectively did was take a 50% pay cut because for 6 months I had two incomes.

If I was starting again. I would bank all online income into a rainy fund for those 6 months for I do t see a drop.

I will wait until the online income is consistently higher than the salary for several months, its not just one good month. Also built some savings and make the jump.

There's two ways to look at it:

1) building enough buffer to be able to quit comfortably and to be able to finance the start up phase
2) you want to quit so much that you're ready to go all in despite of the risk

The transition is never easy, things will never go exactly as predicted, and it takes time to build up the income

But at some point, one has to jump

I would definitely want to be consistently earning close to my monthly take home, plus have a few months worth squirreled away as a safety net. The issue is, being able to put your all into a side hustle when still working, if you can get to a point where youre earning decent money whilst still working 9-5, imagine what you can do when you dedicate yourself to it full time. Good luck!
