Does campaign structure still matter with Google Ads automation?

The old way of making an ad group for every tiny keyword variation feels like too much work now. i’d rather group related terms and let the campaign collect enough data.

Detailed setups give more control, but they also take more time. For me, simpler campaigns are usually easier to manage.

A few years ago, people spent a lot of time creating detailed campaign structures with many ad groups and tightly grouped keywords.
Now with automation and AI features, I see many advertisers using simpler structures.
What approach are you using currently? Do detailed structures still give better control, or is a simpler setup working better nowadays?
I'm still learning about it so from what I understand simpler campaign structures can makes things easier to manage specially when you use ai and automation, but that doesn't mean detailed structures doesnt help it helps when you want to test different audiences or if you want more control over it. So i guess the campaign goal decides the structure.
