Hey BHW,

A couple of years ago, I ran about 15 automated websites that generated around $2k/month via Google AdSense and push notifications. Overnight—and without warning—my Google AdSense account was banned for having "too many ad banners" on my sites. It was a huge blow, as it had been a solid income stream.

Since then, I’ve focused entirely on my main business, but I’ve always preferred creating and monetizing websites over selling services.

Recently, after returning to BHW, I thought about picking this up again as a side project. I’m torn between creating automated sites and monetizing them differently, or building "Tube" sites. My main concern with Tube sites is European regulations and the risk of running into legal issues.

What should I do? Any recommendations?

Thanks, BHW gang.

I think that building the entire project based on AdSense would not be a good decision for me because of the ban of my account it would be better to build a site which has various sources of money because it is more reliable than just using one.

Yes, I agree. The thing is, the RPM AdSense provided was far superior to that of other partners, and the ones that did offer higher rates—like Ezoic—required an AdSense account to function.

And for the type of websites I was building, affiliate marketing wasn't as profitable as AdSense.

If you made that because of that, then you shouldn't try to get back on only to repeat the same process. Its easy enough with time and money to get back on, but the fact is you learned the hard way. Like you should do now is toughen up your processes, and ideas. You don't want to get caught out again spamming for a few bucks, only to build up a good income to lose it.

Try something new. A new media approach. (a popular site with media options advertised for viewers) Cut out google malcom in the middle.

When if the time comes again you are confident about getting back on adsense later, then it will be there. (generally new router, new company, new software, new company.) These will probably happen all naturally over time so give it a few years, and you'll be able to get back in using these options.

Checkout this thread I wrote about not screwing up your payment chennels, by spamming and scamming like you know now.

Best of luck hope you figure something out.

Mediavine's journey is a great alternative to adsense. But I don't think they'd accept an automated site

I wouldnt build the whole model around AdSense again if youve already lost the account.

Better to pick a niche where you can monetize with affiliate, lead gen, direct ads or your own offer. Automated sites can still work, but thin mass content is much harder to keep alive now.

For tube sites, legal/copyright risk is the bigger issue imo. If you dont own or properly license the content, one complaint can become a much bigger problem than losing rankings.

I’d rather build fewer sites with cleaner monetization and less platform dependency.

I’d go with a few quality niche sites instead of mass automation. Monetize with a mix of ads, affiliate, and email so you’re not dependent on one platform. Tube sites are riskier because of copyright and legal issues.

Stick to affiliate instead of adsense, way harder to get banned and money's better anyway

I'd suggest to go what is legal in EU because we're in the game of making money in the long term. Automated sites are very good at scalability and long term earnings.

Honestly, I would try out a few niche sites with affiliate offers nd ads before going with tube sites, they are too much of a copyright problem

A few people I know just opened new AdSense accounts under their parents after getting banned. Not sure if that would work long term though.
