Hi everyone,

With Google Search becoming more competitive, do you think topical authority still matters as much?

Or are content quality, first-hand experience, and original insights becoming more important?

Is broader topical coverage still the best strategy, or should we focus on fewer, highly relevant pages?

Topical coverage seems to be important but i would not produce many pages for just covering a particular topic fewer but useful and relevant pages with insights would seem more effective for me relevance may be more important than just producing more pages.

For a niche blog, yes. You achieve topical authority only with topical relevance. Going broad with thin coverage will only dilute your quality.

I feel that topical coverage is still important but i would not make it about numbers only in depth content combined with firsthand experience and original ideas is much better than simply publishing many pages on the subject.

frankly, one-by-one execution of GEOs is definitely easier. given that different performance criteria depend on different payouts, creativity nd user bases, it would be more prudent to approach each GEO separately.

While I do think that covering the topics is useful i would not necessarily attempt to cover all topics just to do so a few good quality pages with experience and good information appear better than dozens of irrelevant pages.

A site does not need hundreds of articles. Strong coverage around one topic can be enough if the pages connect well.

I still think topical authority matters, but I'd focus more on fewer, highly relevant pages with real experience and original insights. Broad coverage is useful, but only when the content actually adds value rather than just covering topics for the sake of it.

topical authority can definitely be misused as an excuse for publishing junk. fewer pages, but more solid, on the topic itself would probably make much more sense.

I look at it more as query coverage than topical authority like if one money page ranks for a topic I build the missing comparison and problem pages around that exact query set instead of filling every branch of a huge topical map

Yes, topical authority still matters. But you don't need to publish hundreds of articles on the same topic. Instead, you can focus more on relevant content, strong internal linking, and quality backlinks.

I think topical authority still matters, but breadth alone isn’t enough anymore.

I’d rather build fewer, highly relevant pages with genuine experience, original insights, and strong internal linking than publish dozens of surface-level articles.

I would still focus on topical relevance, but not just broad coverage. A smaller set of strong, useful pages that fully match the topic can work better than publishing lots of loosely related content.

Topical authority has always been important.

It depends on your workforce, you can start with a micro niche or the broad category, but covering similar topics, and interlinking them helps users and search engines, and ultimately, you.

Topic authority is more of a byproduct than an end result for me at this moment. When all pages have value, the site builds itself without having to make an entire topic map honestly

I’d focus on fewer, highly relevant pages with real depth. Topical authority still matters, but covering everything just for volume isn’t enough anymore. Strong content, first-hand experience, and useful original insights matter more.

In all honesty i have found some smaller websites performing better with fewer pages that provide answers to questionns rather than trying to cover all key words in a niche.

It is less about niching down on a topic as a whole than niching down on a particular problem from every conceivable perspective. that tends to generate better signals while avoiding padding out a web site with fluff.

One of the best ways to gain an edge for starter sites
Overtime, it can pay off as long as you target topics that are underserved

Topical authority still matters, but relevance, first-hand experience, and original insights are increasingly important for sustainable rankings.
