Very curious if anyone is still paying for pretty expensive tools like ahrefs, and if so - why?

I just canceled my subscription after a long time of using it.

these days I was only really using it for keyword research, but i have since learned to use AI + google ads keyword planner.

Ahrefs and SEMrush are definitely industry standards, but they can be expensive for beginners. Group buy tools or free alternatives like Google Search Console and Ubersuggest are great ways to get started before investing in heavy premium plans.

I've used Semrush for extensive kw research in the past
If you're just starting out, it's not worth the full price.
Just get a group buy

I use semrush because it gives me access to data I ordinarily wouldn't have access to.

AI can't provide such large amount of data for almost any site and/or keyword.

You can use group buy in order to get Ahrefs or Semrush cheaply. Their subscriptions make sense if you have 3 and more websites that you're working on and want to develop SEO wise.

If you're working on multiple sites, Ahrefs or Semrush can still be useful because you get a lot of data that free tools don't provide. For just keyword research, though, Google Keyword Planner and GSC can cover quite a bit, so the cost may not make sense if you aren't using the other features.

I also think the same. Using ahref is still useful for things like backlink audit, competitor research, and site audits. But if you mainly use it for keyword research then there are cheaper alternatives now.

I still find Ahrefs useful for backlink checks and competitor research, but if youre mainly doing keywords, cheaper options can be enough.

If you’re working on a single site and have GSC access, you probably don’t need Ahrefs that much. But when you’re managing multiple sites, it becomes quite handy for quickly checking competitors, backlinks, keywords, referring domains, and other SEO datas

It all comes down to how the tool is used, in my opinion in case you need keyword suggestions there are many cheaper options available which provide similar information it makes sense to retain such a tool as Ahrefs only if you use other features as well

i think it depends on the type of SEO work. for a small site, i dont see much reason to pay for a full tool every month just for keywords.

keyword planner is fine for volume but it wont show you who is linking to your competitors. thats the only reason i'd still pay for ahrefs. if you're not doing much link building then cancelling makes sense, you can always grab one month when you need a proper backlink check

I still use Ahrefs mainly for backlink research and checking competitors. For keyword research alone I can see why someone would cancel it.

Use hermes with data for seo . Its almost free.. There is a github repo it gives 100% semrush experince you can use that too. Nowdays thanks to agentic ais you can 100% forget keyword research and those things and totally automated link building just tryout hermes grokbot kind of things and try to implement it with your current tools

Hello, I canceled my account a few months ago because the rates increased without respecting the price when my visa expired, currently I am using an alternative called seotrends.pro which offers the same and some very original tools for 6 times less than your price...

The truth is that for years they were forced to be the only alternative... now they have a problem

Bunch of people still pay for it. Mainly the ones who do a lot of competitor spying, backlink checking, or track rankings for clients.

Keyword research alone isn’t really worth the full price anymore if AI and Keyword Planner cover what you need.
