Are backlinks still worth investing in during 2026?

The mixed opinions come from people working at completely different competition levels. In a quiet niche a decent page ranks on its own, and those people will tell you links are dead. In anything commercial everybody already has links, so content by itself gets you nowhere.
So the answer is whatever the pages ranking for your own terms look like. Go and pull their link profiles, that will tell you more than any thread here.

I still think backlinks are worth investing in but quality matters more than quantity relevant editorial links from sites in your niche can strengthen a good piece of content while random links usually add little value

Backlinks still matter, but quality beats quantity. Relevant, authoritative links that naturally support valuable content seem to work best.

Backlinks still matter, but relevance and quality are more important than just building a high number. I'd focus on useful content first, then earn links from real sites in your niche instead of buying cheap bulk packages.

Of course, it is definitely a good investment to make in 2026, especially if they are from credible sources and improve the authority of your website.

yeah still a major factor, mostly in competitive niches where content alone won't cut it. relevant editorial links and digital pr work best for me, a few good ones beat dozens of random placements

Hello everyone,
I'm fairly new to SEO and keep seeing mixed opinions about backlinks. Some people say content is everything now, while others still focus heavily on link building.
For those getting real ranking results, are backlinks still a major factor?
What types of links are working best today?
Hi, I think backlinks still matter quite a bit, but quality is more important than quantity. I’d focus on getting links from relevant websites through guest posts and genuine relationships. Good content and solid on page seo matter too. There’s no point building links if your content isn’t useful.

AOM (#as of me ), backlinks still matter, but I’d focus on link quality over quantity. Relevant editorial links worth prioritising over chasing DR alone, and check linking page’s relevance and organic visibility first. Before doing links, make sure target page meets search intent and has solid content & internal links.

yeah backlinks matter but not focus on building as many as possible.links from relevant and trusted sites are more useful the long run and they work best when content and user experience are solid too.

It's just not about content or backlinks. Good content matters, but links from relevant sites can help too. I focus on getting relevant links instead of worrying too much about DR.

How about this? Let's suppose I create profile link on 10 website with high traffic but my profile link has no traffic. Still, backlink work ?

content alone not guarantee rankings especially for new site with little authority behind it.backlinks play role in seo but focus on relevant links from trusted sites rather than just trying to build a high number of them.

If the backlinks are from highly authoritative relevant websites and possibly bring decent traffic as well, then yes they're worth acquiring.

Yes, backlinks are still worth investing in, but quality matters more than quantity. Relevant links from trusted websites, combined with helpful content and strong on-page SEO, can still make a real difference in rankings.

backlinks still matter but i wouldn’t rely on them to compensate for weak content or poor search intent matching I’d focus on relevant links from real sites with genuine traffic and combine them with strong content and internal linking rather than chasing high DA/DR numbers

Yes, backlinks still matter in 2026, but the focus should be on high-quality, editorial links that are relevant and earned through value, relationships, and relevance, not quantity or spammy link-building tactics.
