Wish that was it easy man. I tried applying to over 200 different linkedin jobs, got 2 replies and ended declining them because it was a scam. Tried upwork, spent around $30 bucks to buy connects got 0 leads. Luck is really not on my side i guessYou already have solid experience since 2020, So you have a great foundation to start freelancing. Try taking on a few side clients while keeping your job, Then scale up when you're comfortable.
Its the law of averages in this field. You havn't tried enough good spaces, enough times, in the enough ways. First of all going forward before you leave your job, and parade through the street like the emperor with no clothes.Wish that was it easy man. thanks for the feedback. But yeah....i do get kinda of hopeless after so many sleepless nights and going after clients but it is what it is. I know i am very experienced but its really a headache to find any clients and work with themIts the law of averages in this field. You are wrong about your first assumption. The potential to make more money. As you already spent time and money and you not made anything? lol so you have to realise that whatever position you are in now, don't sacrifice it for a "visionary dream". Swap it for a "working reality". You're in a privalgaed position, where you have guaranteed income to learn, and practise skills. YOu don't get this working for yourslf if the buck stops with you. This why your boss is a tough ass, he has more repsonsiblities, and your salary on the line. Going solo, with no plan, and no base is crazy. Aim in your spare time to work along side your job, and create the type of eye watering content that leaves people sharing your viral videos from youtube and reddit with your editing name over it. I've seen many people choose this way. Courses and commisions are hot if your content is hot.
Nope, i just discovered this forum and i am glad i didHave you tried marketing your expertise on forums? BHW might be one of those if you consider upgrading down the line
From what i realized later is that, these companies use AI to detect resumes and drop everything else if your keywords doesnt match to their needs. Sucks so much but it is what it is. Best to build an AI agent resume that automatically detects these keywords from these job positings and changes it depending on their needs.200 applications with almost no replies makes me think the problem isnt your editing skill, its probably how you're positioning it.
instead of applying as just another "video editor" i'd pick one type of client and one result. something like turning podcasts into 10-15 shorts a month, or editing direct response ads for ecommerce brands.
then your portfolio and outreach can speak directly to that buyer. much easier to sell "i solve this exact problem" than competing with thousands of general editors on upwork.
I tried, multiple times. You cannot succeed as a new freelancer on these platforms as its pay 2 win platforms and im not doing that bs. Already spent $100 on that and barely got any replies.start freelancing on the side first build a few clients before quitting
yeah but nobody replies as wellHave you tried reaching out to medium to large youtubers twitch streamers, kick streamers ect?
Hi guys hope you are good. I have been an editor since 2020 and I am working for a quite big media company but i am freaking tired of it already as i want to become my own boss and potentially earn more money than my full time job. Any idea on where to start?
You already have the hardest part, The skill and experience. Start small: build a personal brand, showcase your best work, reach out to clients directly and slowly transition while keeping your job. Don't just quit, build your exit plan.Hi guys hope you are good. We get it u couldnt have done what u did without a 9-5 but what u need to get is that ur path is not the only viable pathIts the law of averages in this field.
