It wont burst. The main reason is it keeps improving. We are not talking about GPT-2 that can create shitty images and writes low quality content and stays like this forever and people build their businesses around this shitty model. No. 3 years ago we had GPT 3. Now we have GPT 6. We have high quality video generation. etc.
And I would go even a step further: This isnt even the beginning.
Give it 5 years and it will replace: Doctors, scientists, lawyers, accountants, developers, designers (of all kind) and all sort of other jobs.
Right now, we get a lot of AI wrapper services and primitive stuff like AI Image Generation, AI Voice Generation, and so on. If you look at it objectively, this is just the very beginning of the capability of AI. Its like a child that just learned how to walk and now everyone is fascinated by it how fast it learned to walk and how many steps it can make without falling down. Just make until this kid grows up and also learns how to swim, drive car, run a marathon, how to hold a gun...
and guys like Elon Musk are right. It COULD be possible we human were just the caterpillar for AI.
Btw. many years ago, here on BHW, we already had a similar discussion about AI. At this time, there was GPT 2. I remember people were like "I dont think there wont be more improvements in a GPT 4" and now look at this: it can one shot entire 3D games and mobile apps.
do not underestimate this stuff.
