Hi BHW folks,

I just wanna share a quick test that I ran with brand anchors and authority placements on my sample site.

I had afew keywords stuck around the 40-50 range, so I reduced exact-match anchors and used more branded ones instead. And added few authority placements over couple of weeks and left the rest of the site unchanged. After it got indexed, some kywds moved into the 20s, with a few reaching the 10–20 range. I tracked them for several weeks and most gains held, although there were normal fluctuations. Not calling this a proven formula from one test. Just sharing the result becoz those movemnt got interesting.

Anyone else tested a similar anchor mix?

I haven't tested this exact mix myself yet, but the result is interesting. I like that you tracked the keywords for several weeks instead of judging the change immediately. It would be interesting to see whether the gains remain stable over a longer period, especially after normal ranking fluctuations.

Yeah, I agree. Keeping the anchor text natural and spreading the backlinks out over time seems to make the strategy more sustainable.

Branded anchors have worked better for me than forcing exact match anchors. A few strong placements can help when a page gets stuck.

I've had the same experience. Google punishes a page when with many keyword-rich anchors

It's an interesting test , but I'd be careful about treating it as proof of a hard anchor density threshold. Cutting back on aggressive exact match anchors and adding more branded placements can make the anchor profile look less aggressive , but that doesn't mean anchor dilution was the only thing driving the change. The rank jump could easily be a mix of the new placements , indexing time and the anchor changes rather than one isolated factor. If those keywords are now sitting in the teens , I'd test some relevant contextual internal links from supporting pages before building more commercial anchors

That's a fair point though. I wouldn't treat anchor change as sole reason either new placements, indexing time, and overall link context likely plays part. And the internal link test was good at next step before adding more commercial anchors.

One thing I would add is a control, do not touch few similar keywords during the same period. If they moved too, it was probably an update or normal fluctuation, not the anchors.

Also "branded" can mean a few things. pure brand, naked URL and brand+keyword hybrids don't always act the same. I find hybrids carry more relevancey. how was your split, and how many links did you add?

Branded anchors can definitely be useful when a keyword gets stuck, but the placement quality matters just as much as the anchor mix. You can combine branded, URL, and a few relevant keyword variations while building links consistently from relevant sites.
